I’d like to thank Lichfield Society for inviting me to judge at their Premier
Open Show, and Tettoy English Toy Terriers for sponsoring the classes. Many
thanks as well to my efficient and welcoming ring stewards. Overall I was very
impressed with the quality of the exhibits. My sincere thanks to all exhibitors
who entered, I had an amazing entry of 17, with only 3 absentees, and a few hard
decisions! The venue was cold and due to having such a big entry overall was
very busy and noisy, which is not the best showing environment for ETTs.
Puppy (3,0)
A
super class to start the day, I was splitting hairs over 1st and 2nd
and I’m sure these two will swap places many times over their careers. All
3 in this class were unsettled by the noise, however 1st settled
enough to give her the edge.
1st
FRANCIS, BLATCHFORD and LEONARD’S Witchstone Trouble Brewing At Peopleton. 9
month old bitch, with a stunning head, dark almond eyes and well set
candle-flame ears. Shown in glossy black coat and rich chestnut tan. Excellent
extension and good rear drive when she settled. BPIB and I was pleased to hear
she later won Puppy Group 3 under Lynn Webster.
2nd
WHITEHOUSE and WHITEHOUSE’S Amalric Coco Chanel With Dalmonde. Also 9 months,
her head is beautiful, narrow wedge-shape, dark almond eyes and a lovely elegant
arch to her neck. Nice topline leading to a good curve of loin. With fine-bone,
a straight front and excellent rear angulation she moved well. Well-handled. I’m
looking forward to watching her mature.
3rd
WILLIAMS and WILLIAM’S Sharex Miss Cartier.
Junior (2,0)
1st
GOODFELLOW’S Nasabe Royal Rose. 11 month old bitch, ideal size, elegant.
Feminine head, alert expression and well set ears which she used well. Correct
markings. Long neck flowing into a nice topline, good rear angulation and well
set tail. Moved well with nice extension, a close contender for BPIB.
2nd
LOVE’S Tettoy A Whole New World. 11 month old bitch. Wedge-shaped head, flat
skull, dark eyes and alert expression, attentive to her handler at all times.
Straight front with well laid shoulders, however would prefer more turn of
stifle, she lacks a little in rear drive.
Post Graduate (3,1)
19 month old litter sisters and very similar.
1st
OWENS and OWEN’S Russiatree Sunday Best. Nice wedge-shaped head, flat skull.
Used her ears well when standing. Fine-boned. Unsettled on the move, a little
close behind when going away and back.
2nd
BARANZECK’S Russiatree Dark Angel. Super enthusiastic at seeing her breeder and
sister in the ring which made her a little difficult to assess fully but she
enjoyed her day. A lovely wedge-shaped head with dark eyes. Good length of neck.
Tail well set. She was the better mover of the two but her dropped ears let her
down. Coat could be in better condition.
Open (9,2)
A
tough class, on another day my placings could have swapped.
1st
CONWAY and OAKDEN’S Neerodan Thyme To Shine. 21 months. My eye kept coming back
to her. Perfect size, she is elegant and compact with a narrow wedge-shaped
head, beautiful dark, almond eyes and candle flame ears. Arched neck flowing
into well laid shoulders. Nice curving topline and good bend of stifle. She
moved out with drive, precision and a beautiful extended trot. BOB.
2nd
WHITEHOUSE and WHITEHOUSE’S Twowayshouse Tudor King For Dalmonde. 3 year old
dog, shown in excellent condition. Wedge-shaped head, dark eyes, ears a touch
wide. Correct markings, although his thumbprints have run. He floated round the
ring, moving with precision and excellent rear drive. RBOB.
3rd
HOWARD and HOWARD’S Lasagesse Starman.

I would like to thank the committee for
inviting me to judge at this show – they went above and beyond in their
organisation & hospitality. My stewards were still smiling after what was
turning out to be a long day for them & I really appreciated it. Finally thank
you to the GBBA for their support.
Junior (3,2)
1.Fernyhough’s
Datiro Tiger Feet- red rough bitch, just a week out of puppy and definitely
still raw and immature. Lovely temperament. She is balanced with a feminine
head with a pleasing expression,
Nose black, with large
wide-open nostrils and definite stop. Straight
front with a good shoulder, correct topline & good quarters. Moved well,
straight & true. Needs to develop in chest & rib but her overall strengths gave
her BOB today
Post Graduate (3,1)
Two very different types here and was a hard
decision
1.Fernyhough’s
Somershire’s Freezya at Sharnese – certainly a very cobby bitch in body &, in
contrast to her kennel mate, at 14 months has a spring of rib & a good body.
Head in correct proportion, good neck & topline, well bent stifles. Tends to
stand wide in front. Moved OK. I would like a little more length of leg as she
looks rather low to the ground at the moment.
2.
Oliver-Barratt’s Chinasky’s Queen
Grande – b/t smooth presented & handled to get the best out of her. Correct size
with good body. Rounded skull with good pigment, could be a little wider in
lower jaw. Straight front, sufficient angulation fore and aft. Tail a little low
set but carried correctly. Moved with good drive.
Open (3,1)
1.Fernyhough’s
Beauborne Obama at Fernstaff – all male. Wouldn’t want him any heavier but he is
balanced. Correct neck, deep chest with well sprung ribs. Sufficient angulation,
level topline. Moved with drive but a little high stepping in front. His overall
proportions gave him RBOB.
2. Oliver—Barratt’s
Risethor Laidbackjack – the distinguished elder statesman here today at 8 years.
Masculine head of correct size in proportion to body, good turnup of jaw. Good
depth of chest. Correct length of neck would prefer better lay of shoulder & a
less sloping topline. Good quarters. Good bone. In really good condition &
moved accurately with drive.

Walker’s Newtonwood Double or Quits |
PD/B (4,1)
1. Walker’s Newtonwood Double or Quits. 3
quite different pups challenged in this class with my winner being this 9 mth
old dog. Not entirely settled to begin with but as time went on he began to
relax. He was really good to go over and soundly constructed all through. I
particularly liked his head and expression having good breadth of skull which is
proportionate in length to that of muzzle, dark almond-shaped eyes of good size,
ears set on just right and good dentition. Medium length of neck, correct
topline, ribcage carried well back and tail set on high. Moving true fore and
aft and presented in excellent coat. Reserve BOB & Best Puppy.
2. Thorne’s Tonnere Apache Coeur de Masai
avec Dyffrynsands. 8 mth dog who was close up to the winner. He pleased for
overall type and presented a well balanced outline with neck of correct length,
firm topline with slight rise over the loin, ribbed well back but still to fully
develop and tail good for both set and carriage. Well proportioned head with
masculine expression; dark almond-shaped eyes, flat cheeks and good dentition.
Moves out so well on the go around but winner had the edge on the down and back.
3. Salmon’s Dyffrynsands Who’s That Guy at
Lizzielane
JD/B (4,1)
1. Dence’s Mypons Moonriver. Another class
with a range of types. This 12 mth old bitch was my winner and although changing
coats right now she was good to go over and shows much promise. Feminine
headpiece with nice broad skull, moderate stop, excellent eye, ears set on just
above eye level, flat cheeks and good dentition. Nicely balanced with medium
length of neck, correct topline, rib developing well, nice short loin and tail
set on high. Moving true on the down and back and drives well from the rear with
confident carriage. Super temperament.
2. Thorne’s Tonnere Apache Coeur de Masai
avec Dyffrynsands
3. Tarff & Young’s Newpark’s Crème de la
Crème
PGD/B (3,1)
1. Cooper’s Kateniara Only Time. 2 yr old
bitch who pleased for type and presented the outline I was looking for with neck
of medium length, correct topline and feathered tail set on high and carried
over the back. Feminine headpiece with typical expression of the breed which
lacks in some, good skull to muzzle proportions, dark almond-shaped eyes of good
size, flat cheeks and scissor bite. Sound girl, moving freely. Would just like
to see her carry a little more body. Very well handled.
2. Tarff & Young’s Newpark’s Crème de la
Crème. 16 mth old bitch. Soundly constructed girl who was pleasing to go over
but for me, she was a tad longer cast than desired. Neck of medium length, firm
topline with slight rise over the loin, nice spring of rib and tail good for
both set and carriage. Nicely proportioned head with good breadth to skull,
moderate stop and ears of correct set. She has nice dark eyes but a little
rounder than preferred. Correct coat texture.
OD/B (5,1)
1. Morris’ Rothermere Ocean of Fire JW. 20
mth old bitch who was a standout in this class for me and also in today’s entry.
She was just the type I have in my mind for the breed and in addition she is
beautifully balanced and was good to go over. Feminine head with skull of good
breadth, equal skull to muzzle lengths, moderate stop, the very best of eyes,
ears set on just right, flat cheeks and correct dentition. Neck of medium
length, correct topline, ribbed well back, firm loin and tail set on high and
carried over the back. Soundly constructed both front and rear and moves out
freely with confident carriage. Quality coat with slight wave. BOB.
2. Walker’s Pandaprint Be Mine at Toytales. 5
yr old dog with so much to like. A scopey lad who is up to size, with a tad more
neck but good to go over and another who is soundly built. Masculine,
well-proportioned head, dark expressive eyes, ears set on just above eye level,
medium stop, flat cheeks and scissor bite. Firm topline, lovely ribbing, nice
short loin and tail set on high and of good carriage. Good angles front and
rear, standing nice and straight in front and presented with super muscle-tone.
Moving true.

show and to my most helpful and efficient stewards who kept everything
running smoothly. Special thanks to all the exhibitors for a very good
entry and the opportunity to judge your lovely papillons and the
sporting way in which my decisions were accepted.
The ring was a perfect size but both its busy and rather noisy position
by the main door, together with several young dogs who were new to shows
and not familiar with their handlers, affected confidence and
performance in some cases.
