Thank you to the Lichfield committee for the kind invitation to judge at their show and the Basset Fauve de Bretagne Club for sponsoring the classes. I would also like to thank the exhibitors that turned out, I very much appreciate your entry and it was a privilege and a pleasure to go over your lovely dogs. Puppy - (5,2) 1 st Stephenson’s - MOCHRAS MAHJESTY OF FRYERFOLD Lovely 8 month old wheaten bitch with the darkest of eyes and super expression, excellent pigmentation and ears with good head proportions. Good front & topline which she kept on the move. Tail set and carriage is correct. Liked her angulation and moved well with drive. I would like her coat to be slightly harsher, but this should change given that this is her puppy coat. BPIB 2 nd Freudenreich’s - RANGALI SHIMMY JIMMY Friendly 6 month old red wheaten dog with good dark eye and ears. Slightly short in the muzzle, but I am sure as he matures this will develop. Short and muscular neck, deep chest and level topline. Stood in profile this boy looks very mature for his age. Movement is good albeit a little busy and was a little hesitant today coming forward. Very well handled by his young owner. 3 rd Evan’s - SHIROBLAM FLAIR FOR LIANDEV Pretty 6 month old bitch who has a very feminine head and expression. Good ears and front with a nice topline. This young lady is very green and looked very much a baby in this class. She moved nicely but would prefer and neater tail set and carriage. Junior - (2,0) 1 st – MacKay’s - SHIROBLAM BLUE BALLERINA Super 17 month old bitch of excellent type. Attractive head, ears and darkest of eyes and pigmentation with the sweetest expression. Good forechest, front legs with plenty of bone. Good level and strong top line with a correct tail set. Moves freely with ease and has good rear drive and covers the ground easily. Good harsh coat and colour well presented. BOB 2 nd – Jones & Gregg’s - WRATTHEMBRAY COMPO (AI) 10 month old young dog with correct scissor bite, nice black nose with correct eye shape and good pigmentation. Needs more forechest but as he matures this should improve. Good lively movement but carried his tail more over his back instead of a sickle. Harshest of coats and presented in good condition. Post Graduate - (1,0) 1 st – Jones & Gregg’s - WRATTHEMBRAY MISS BRAHMS Pretty 2 year old Wheaten girl with a super feminine head and good pigmentation. Good topline, and tail set with balanced angulation. Moved out well and steadily. Another presented in good condition. Open - (2,1) 1 st – Leech's – CH/IR CH GAVELKIND CONQUISTADOR BY JAMCHALA Smart 7 ½ year old lad in super fit condition. Good strong male head, super ears and a melting expression. Ok in front with an excellent top line, tail set and angulation. Moves very well with drive and purpose. Good harsh coat. Slightly uncooperative with his handler today. RBOB

Deerhounds

Puppy – (2,0)

1st Peach -  QUANTASTICO LUCIA TO KILBOURNE

At nearly a year old this is a lovely feminine puppy, with a pretty head and neat ears leading to a strong neck and good shoulder placement. Harsh coat covering the topline with correct rise over the loin to the croup and tail set allowing the tail to be carried right. She stood on nice tight feet with correct front and rear angles allowing her to move effortlessly round the ring. I'm sure one for the future. I watched her again in the hound puppy group and was pleased to see her go group 3. Well done.

2nd Pounder - ZELDINI LINK

Such a shame for this young boy who came up against the first. At only 8 months this lighter coloured male is still very immature. He has a beautiful soft expression with dark eye and tight ears. Nice straight front and good feet. He obviously loves his handler as he didn't take his eyes off him. He moved nicely round the ring with power from the rear, wagging his tail all the time. His coat is still a little soft but that should come with maturity.

Junior – (3,1)

1st Cummings -  CLAONAIGLEN ARTNEY

A 13 month old young male, again still along way to go to maturity. Of larger build with a light grey crisp coat. Very masculine head with dark eye and tight ears. Good length of neck leading to good shoulder placement. I found him a little upright in front at the moment but should come down as he grows. I feel this type of hound takes longer to mature but it is all there so he should be fine. He moved well round the ring but would have benefitted from a large outside ring. RBOB

2nd Peach -  KILBOURNE OSCAR WILD

Another youngster just starting to come into his own at just 14 month old he looked a little more mature than the first. Nice masculine head with correct ears. Good reach of neck leading to correct withers covered in a good crisp coat. Again a little upright in front at the moment and a bit flat on his feet. He dropped his topline a little on the move but he is at that funny age when things change weekly and again would benefit from being outside.

Post Graduate (3,1)

1st Peach - KILBOURENFLORA MCDEVA

Coming up 2 years old I have watched this lady from the side of the ring and I am pleased to say " what you see is what you get". She has a feminine head with dark eye and neat ears. A dark crisp coat which is good to feel. She has correct front and rear angles standing on tight feet. A good topline. A deerhound lady / mentor once told me it should be " a continuation of curves " and she is from head to tail. Beautiful to go over. BOB. Again I had the pleasure to watch her take hound group 4. I was delighted, as was her breeders. Well done.

2nd Pounder - PACKWAY NEW YORK NEW YORK

A 2 year old bitch , again unfortunate to come up against the first. Of smaller type and lighter in color but still has a good crisp coat. I would have liked to see a bit more substance all over and a little more spring of rib. She is put together right, with correct angles, keeping her topline on the move. She stands on nice tight feet. She seemed to lack enthusiasm, just not her day. Presented beautifully.

Open (1,0)

1st Wilce–Quinton & Quinton -KIRJOJAX HARRIS

A 2 year old male who didn't seem on top form today. Good masculine head with dark eye and neat ears. Strong neck leading into his good withers and good topline. Nice deep chest leading to correct tuck up. I have judged this dog before and he seems to have gone a little upright in front and found him lacking in forechest. I learnt afterwards his sister is in season at home and he has just become a dad so his hormones will be all over the place, which will have affected him on the day. He moved with drive although a little loose in front. Hormones!! It is a nightmare I know!! Turned out well

BEST PUPPY:  -
I would like to thank the Litchfield Canine society for inviting me to judge Pharaoh Hounds and to those who gave me an entry. This was my first ever judging appointment and I had a lovely day and really enjoyed the experience.
Both dogs that were entered are litter siblings. They were young upcoming dogs very similar in type. My Best of breed was DOUCAI’S BRAGIOLI and my reserve best of breed was DOUCAI’S LAMPUKI.
PUPPY ( 0 Entries)
POST GRADUATE (1 Entry)
1st and BOB- DOUCAI’S BRAGIOLI
18 Months old, pretty feminine bitch of medium size. Nice head with good expression and correct eye colour, she presented with erect mobile ears and full dentition however had slightly less of an underjaw then I would’ve liked. She has moderate front and rear angulation with tight feet and parallel back end. Overall she presented the more appealing outline of the two. She was shown on the leaner side and I personally would’ve preferred more weight however this may be due to her age
I awarded her the BOB as once settled she presented a long lean neck that flowed into a level topline that was held well when on the move and standing.
OPEN DOG (1 Entry)
1st and RBOB- DOUCAI’S LAMPUKI
18 Month’s old, masculine dog of medium size. I preferred his head as it was nicely chiselled and had a stronger underjaw with correct ear set and mobile erect ears. He had a good expression, eye colour and full dentition. Has moderate front angulation but had a little more in the rear than his sister. Also presented tight feet, parallel back end and 2 fully descended testicles. Again he was also shown on the leaner side but I am sure this will change with age.
It was difficult for me to fully assess his movement due to him being unsettled in the ring today which is why he was awarded the RBOB, but I am sure that these two will swap places in classes over time.
