I wish to begin by thanking the Society for inviting me too judge the Smooths today which I believe is the first time they have been scheduled at this prestigious show. Being a week day, & without CCs on offer, I was not expecting great numbers, but was more than pleased with the entry of 14, & would like to thank the exhibitors for coming long distance to show quality dogs under me on what turned out to be a very hot day!
JD (3) 1 Kinsey’s Sturtmoor Khaos of Kaswyn, it was a privilege to judge these 3 litter brothers who at the tender age of 6 months show much promise for the future, & will no doubt change places often when competing together. All the boys had lovely flat skulls, & long tails, & have time on their side to fill out in rib & body. They all moved fairly well for their age, & it will be interesting to see how they all develop. I chose Khaos preferring his outline in profile. BP & was pleased to see he was awarded PG4. Well done! 2 Cole’s Sturtmoor Dream of Kasvelyn; 3 Kinsey’s Sturtmoor Kastiels Wings. PGD (0). OD (3,1a) 1 Benton & Woods’ Oakestelle Vivaldi, this 2 years tri has come on in leaps & bounds, & is of good breed type. He has a good head, balanced in length with flat skull & strong underjaw. Correct ear carriage & muscular neck. He is all in proportion, masculine without coarseness, & stands showing a nice outline in profile, with good length of body, depth of chest, & correct angulations. Sufficient bone & substance with straight front, strong but flexible pasterns & muscular hindquarters. He moved out well with good front reach & powerful rear drive. BD & BOB; 2 Lister’s Ch Eridor I’m Mr Blu at Newarp, have commented on this blue dog before having judged him for ‘in show’ awards. He has done much for the breed, being a workmanlike dog of good size & colour, with a courteous well-mannered nature. However, he is now into his senior years, & is having to give way to youth.
JB (1) 1 Sturtmoor Kurious Kadence, tri litter sister to the 3 boys. Smaller bitch with feminine head features, sweet eye & well placed ears, although I would prefer a longer leaner head. Good length of neck & level back with well bent stifles, & long tail. She has a jet black shiny coat, moved well, & also has a friendly nature. PGB (1) 1 Peacock’s Blamorder Back To The Start for Saraneth, at 22 months this tri bitch is in good fit, hearty condition, albeit she is very full of herself! She is ideal for size, well balanced in length to height. Clean wedge shaped head with well-rounded muzzle & almond shaped eye with an alert happy expression. She has good bone & substance with straight front & strong pasterns with well bent stifles & short hocks, is also nicely developed in chest with good spring of rib. Her movement was free & powerful albeit slightly erratic, & would appear smoother if she were to slow down a bit! But one of those Collies that enjoys life which is nice to see. BB & BOS. OB (6,2) This class was complimented with 4 quality bitches. 1 Benton’s Alopex Marionette of Oakestelle, heading the class were mother & daughter, & having judged the first when younger, she is now beginning to look her 6 years of age. Her head is balanced with flat skull, & correct stop with dark almond shaped eyes. Her markings are well broken, but her colour is beginning to fade. Having said that, she is in good trim, & although not big, she is all in proportion for her size, & stands correctly at all times. She is well developed in chest & sprung in rib, although I would still prefer a slightly longer loin. She still moves well with enthusiasm & drive; 2 Benton’s Oakestelle Venus De Milo, blue daughter of Marionette up against her dam today. Standing alongside her, she looked immature, & rather fine in head, bone & substance, & her movement was a little wide when viewed from the rear. However, she is the most lovely colour blue, the perfect showgirl, & I think in the future once fully matured she will be better than her dam & will trouble the best. It was nice to hear later that this pair won the Brace Stakes, well done! 3 Kinsey’s Rycombe Jovial Jasmine of Sturtmoor.
