My thanks to the officers & committee of the West of England Collie Society for their invitation to judge Smooth Collies at their sub-group championship show. I appreciated their friendly hospitality & congratulate them on their well run show in what was a new venue.
My thanks also to all the Smooth Collie exhibitors for their entries & support & the sporting way they accepted my judgements.
PD (3) A class of three very promising quality puppies. 1 Kinsey’s Sturtmoor Khaos of Kaswyn, a very smart well grown 7 month old breed typical youngster. Well boned with true parallel front of proportional width all through. Attractive head with correctly shaped dark eyes & responsive well shaped ears giving a pleasing alert expression. Excellent profile complimented by his good length of neck & body. Balanced in angles front & rear & moved well on a difficult floor. BP & later pleased to hear he went BPIS; 2 Road’s Sturtmoor Dreams of Kasvelyn, litter brother to 1 & of similar size & shape with comments on development & construction all very much the same. I liked his head & expression with his head being slightly smoother in outline than 1 although I just preferred front & front movement of 1. Both have a sound foundation structure providing the desirable base for maturity into a quality adults; 3 Kinsey’s Sturtmoor Kastiels Wings. JD (3) 1 S Khaos of K; 2 S Dreams of K; 3 S Kastiels Wings. LD (1) 1 Denton’s Ryecombe Jaffa Jake at Brackenhaye, a mature 3 year old tri who is well bodied, masculine breed typical head with nicely shaped responsive ears, head set on a strong good length neck. True front, overall he has good body proportions being well ribbed back & having adequate spring & depth & slight rise over his broad loin. Moved well & free but tended to toe in slightly in front. RBD. OD (1) 1 Gay’s Yagane’s Blue Mist, a mature looking 3 year old b/m who is pleasing in general appearance. Typical in head having pleasing proportions, head planes & clean lines with good depth of jaw. Strong & powerful in neck, true parallel in front with tight elbows, well made in body with good spring & depth of chest. Overall he has balance & pleasing proportions. Moved well & the better of the males. BD.
VB (3,2a) 1 Gay’s Manordeifi Sapphire Mist at Yagane, an impressive 9 year old b/m who is attractive & breed typical in general appearance. She is well made all through with good front, pleasing body both in make & length to height proportions, tight elbows & decent angulations front & rear. Typy feminine head & expression. She moved out well & purposefully but needing to be truer in front; 2 Lusty’s Juniperwood Dream Maker at Blamorder, a 7 year old tri who was unhappy with her surrounding & especially the floor surface which affected her whole demeanour both standing & moving. However she has pleasing breed qualities in head, expression & when settled her overall body profile. Movement was hard to assess with her being reticent & unsure of the ring surface. PB (1) 1 Kinsey’s Sturtmoor Kurious Kadence, a rangy 7 month old tri who is litter sister to my best male puppy. She has very good bone & body development & has pleasing height to length proportions. Very attractive in head & expression; attentive eyes & responsive ears. True front with adequate lay back of shoulder, good length body but still having plenty of scope for maturity. Moved with confidence although with typical puppy action with good hind action but needing to settle in front. JB (2) 1 Moore’s Manordeifi Summer Magic, a well made tri of nearly 13 months of age, she is pleasing in bone & body & has a very attractive side profile. She has a typical head both in make, shape & outline. Lovely expression which is enhanced by her alert correctly shaped dark eyes & responsive ears. True & parallel in front although tends to stand a little wide, well made body & overall proportions. She has pleasing parallel hocks with good width apart. Moved well enough although a little loose in front; 2 S Kurious Kadence. PGB (3,2) 1 Brown’s Blamorder Back In Town, a very smart well constructed 22 month old tri. She is very pleasing in general appearance being of good length & of compatible height. Lovely head & expression set on a good length strong neck. Firm well made body with good spring & tight elbows. True front although tended to stand a little wider than I prefer. Nicely angled hindquarters with parallel hocks which I preferred to 2. Moved really well & the better of this class; 2 Moore’s Tomalca Buttons’N’Bows at Manordeifi, an attractive s/w 3 year old very typy bitch. She has a very pleasing feminine & breed typical head & expression being slightly better & smoother in outline than 1. True front being fine in bone with OK feet which tended to splay on the slippery ring surface. Well made & covered body, firm in topline & nicely let down hindquarters which need to strengthen both standing & on the move. LB (3) 1 Lusty’s Juniperwood Just A Dream, a rising 5 year old tri who is well made all through. She is attractive in head which has typical features, is feminine although could be smoother in contour all through. She has good overall proportions in body length to height & has good body make, shape & cover. True front, well boned forelegs which I preferred to 2. Balanced in angulations front & rear & moved well & the better of this class. Her overall balanced well made profile & good movement edged her RBB over others; 2 Kinsey’s Ryecombe Jovial Jasmine of Sturtmoor, a very typy & attractive, to look at, 3 year old sable. I liked her head & expression & her overall body construction. She is true but fine in front & I would prefer more angle of shoulder. Nevertheless she has excellent body conformation with good spring & depth. Moved well enough although needing to tighten up in front; 3 Moore’s Monordeifi Silver Dazzler. OB (5,2) 1 Denton’s Ch Kevranna Theras Enate Echo, an eyecatching 3 year old sable who is attractive in markings & commendable in overall construction. She has many breed & construction qualities, notable it was pleasing to find she has a lovely head & expression, she has forechest & firm tight elbows together with a tight well made body. Overall she makes a very satisfying picture both standing & moving freely & purposefully with both front & rear movement the best here today. BB, BOB & later overall RBIS; 2 Gay’s Yagane’s Lavender Mist, another well made bitch, a 3 year old b/m who has an attractive shapely head, well shaped dark eyes & mobile responsive ears. Head set well onto a good length strong neck which in turn is set onto a well made body which has spring of rib & adequate depth although I would prefer her to be tighter in elbows. Moved well & free but tended to be loose in front partly due to her uncertainty of the smooth ring surface.
