Grateful thanks to the Crufts committee for the opportunity to judge our wonderful breed at this prestigious show, to all exhibitors for their entries and to Tony & David my excellent stewards who helped me to enjoy my long awaited day. I am sorry to everyone for the late finish so it was such a shame the ring was left empty until 10am. Having not judged the Smooths at home for almost 4 years most were new dogs to me. I found there were quite a few with eyes that were either round, too full, or forward facing - without the correctly placed almond shaped eye you lose out on the sweet expression, but movement on most I thought was good, it was a pleasure to see so many sound dogs using our good sized ring to advantage.

VD (5,1) What an excellent class to start with. 1. Hayward's Ch Sandcastle's True Topic (Imp Fin) I last judged this Tri dog almost 4 years ago at his very first show in this country. I liked him then and now still love everything about him. He still has a good correct head showing no signs of coarseness, flat skull, lovely eye and expression, well set ears well used. He has such a good balanced outline, nice length of neck and back, correct confirmation which shows in his easy and effortless movement and still with good top line. Although this year he is coming up to his 9th birthday I thought today he looked at his best and went so well for his owner/handler who he obviously has such a good rapport with. CC BOB. 2. Forbes' Ch/Int/Ir Ch Pelghart Paint It Black at Willowhurst. Another upstanding tri with good construction & shown as usual in good condition and nicely presented. Head handles well good skull, nice eye with neat ears. He moved soundly and with purpose. 3. Purvey's Norfield Silver Knight for Freejack Masculine dark coloured B/M with good body shape, stronger in head but with nice dark eye. Moved well.

SpPD (3) 1. Denton's Ryecombe Jaffa Jake. Up to size tri shown in good condition and nice dark coat. Good chest, mature body of good shape. Typical head handles well with nice ears. Moved soundly and with purpose. 2. Baker's Tomalca Caught Ya Lookin. S/W well balanced with good overall construction not as mature as 1. Typical head but still needs to finish in skull. Moved well enough. 3. Bell's Koczkodan Nosblyth. Tri another of correct size, in nice coat and condition. He is another who needs time for his head to finish but has rather a full eye. Moved soundly.

SpJD (2) Two nice dogs but different types. 1. Hayward's Foxearth Flintab. Beautiful coloured B/M He has good reach of neck, good front and length of back. Shown in excellent condition, he is both eye catching and an upstanding young male. His head is not as refined as some but still correct, with neat well set ears which he uses to advantage and is very attentive to his handler. He moves soundly. 2. Forbes' Natalain Veni Vidi Vici at Willowhurst (Imp Rus) S/W More refined all over than 1 but he is now beginning to mature well. Nicely balanced body shape, good front and rear. Head handles well, nice eye and ears. He was shown looking well with nice tight coat. Moved with drive.

PGD (10,3) 1. Forbes' Natalian Veni Vidi Vici at Willowhurst (Imp Rus). 2. Giddings' Ryecombe Discovered Gold. Nicely balanced S/W shown in nice coat and condition. Good body shape, front and rear construction, balanced head but would prefer sweeter eye. He moved soundly with purpose. 3. Cook's Ryecombe Duncan Disorderly. S/W litter brother to 2nd of very similar make and shape although he needs to mature in body. He does have a really clean head, nice eye and expression. Not as positive in movement as his brother.

LD (5,1) 1. French's Foxearth Flock Master for Breckamore. Very nice outline and good body shape to this young tri. Shown in really good black coat and with super bone. He has a really nice shaped eye giving sweet expression but although head is balanced he still needs to clear in stop. Neat well used ears, good construction front & rear which enabled him to move soundly. 2. Williams' McClelland Hotter Than Hell. Similar nice outline to this tri. Again this one shown in really nice condition and coat. Typical head good ears and eye. Just needs to finish in muzzle.Well put together and another sound mover. 3. Woodstock's Shulune Imperial Guard at Hylaird. S/W of bigger size but with good confirmation front and rear. Head is a little heavier with rather a full eye. He has a good coat and moved well.

OD (6) Difficult decisions had to be made in this class, on another day they could be different. 1. McKenna & Bardill's Ch Macgee's Street Spirit at Plaisance (Imp) Unexpected winner for me but he stood out with is lovely balanced outline and looked good in the ring today. Liked his head with flat skull, well placed dark expressive eyes and neat ears. Nice length of neck, body and good angulations. His breeder/handler really showed him to advantage. They used the ring well and he moved soundly with good topline. Res CC. 2. White's Ch Foxearth Frappuccino. Having watched this lovely boy grow up with some interest I was keen to have the chance to judge him. Well presented Tri with good black coat and condition. He has a correct head lovely dark eye and well set ears which gave him that lovely expression. He is so well put together, giving him a well balanced outline and good body shape. Unfortunately today he was distracted from giving his best but he is a joy to watch when he just effortlessly powers around the ring with ease. 3. Norman & Ratcliffe's Easy Listening at Seanua. Well presented S/W with nice coat and shown in nice condition. He has a clean balanced head with good skull, nice dark well placed eye and ears giving him a very pleasing expression. He stands out with his lovely balanced outline with good length of body and angulation. His movement today was quite positive.

GCDSD (4) 1. Cook's Ryecombe Duncan Disorderly at Kimbru. 2. Trundley's Juniperwood King of Kings. Tri with good body shape, good front and rear. A typical head with nice eye and ears but reluctant to use them. Steady movement. 3. Purvey's Norfield Silver Knight for Freejack.

VB (4,2) 1. Giddings' Ch Foxearth Gold Filligree. Nice to see this feminine S/W bitch again. When I first judged her she was very much a youngster and has now matured into a really nice bitch. Still has nice refined clean head with nice eye and ears which she uses well. She has lovely body outline good construction with lovely coat and in good condition. Very sound on the move. 2. Robinson's Ch Hilltarn Valentine. Tri now 10 yrs but still has nice balanced head with good eye and well set ears. She is well constructed and still moves so soundly with drive.

SpPB (5) 1. Hayward's Kiiramanna She Makes My Day at Foxearth. Nicely coloured B/M now maturing into a feminine bitch of nice size and shape, with nice bone. Good front, reach of neck and length of back. Has nice clean head with nice dark eye and expression, well set ears which she used to advantage. Her puppy coat is rather open at the moment but should be better when she loses this. Movement sound all ways. BP. 2. Beeney's Ryecombe Jolly Jonquil at Coneypark. Very feminine S/W of nice outline and body shape, good front and construction, nice coat and in good condition. Head handles well with well set neat ears. With time should mature into a nice bitch. Moved really well. 3. Pointon's Kingrock Claudia. S/W with nice body shape and length of back. Good head pattern but rather light eye. Movement a little loose today.

SpJB (4) 1. French's Finnish Touch for Breckamore. Tri of nice size and overall shape, typical head with nice eye but ears could have been tighter. She moved soundly. 2. Moores' Tomalca Buttons'n'Bows at Manordeifi. S/W nice size to this very feminine bitch. Very refined head with ears on top and well used. Nicely put together but still needs time to mature. Moved freely. 3. Trundley's Juniperwood Kinda Special. Nicely coloured B/M with balanced head, good eye and ears although reluctant to use them. She is a good size with feminine outline, but unfortunately today carrying too much weight. Moved so much better when not held too tightly.

PGB (6,1) 1. Campbell's Ryecombe Dolly Mixture. 2. Norman's Ryecombe Drama Queen. Two S/W sisters so similar in many ways. Both have nice feminine outlines and good length of neck and back and well constructed. They were each shown in nice condition with good coats. For me Dolly Mixture had a more balanced skull. They were each very positive movers. 3. Trundley's Juniperwood Jubilation. Tri who has good head pattern with nice eye but one rather heavy ear. Another who was carrying too much weight but still has a good body shape. Moved OK.

LB (5) 1. Russell's Manordeifi Satin Doll of Koczkodan. This tri appeals for nice overall body outline she has a good front and rear angulation. With balanced head, nice eye and neat ears. She moved soundly. 2. Trundley's Juniperwood Final Affair. Like the head on this tri she has a good eye and ears. Nice body shape and well put together but would benefit from losing some weight. She still moved well enough. 3. Robinson's Southcombe Summer Special at Dawcher. This S/W with good balanced body shape, stands and shows well for her handler, although her head is a good wedge shape I would prefer flatter skull. She moves very freely with good drive.

OB (12,1) 1. Sehlin's Nu/Dk Ch Clingstone's Sounds Good. First time I have seen this very feminine Tri bitch and when learning of her breeding I can understand why I liked her so much. Loved her super outline, nice neck and length of back and she was so well put together. She has a nice wedge head, flat skull, good dark eye giving a sweet expression, nice tight coat, showing well for her handler and she moved well. Couldn't resist her today and I hope her owner was pleased that her long journey was worthwhile. CC. 2. Hayward's Ch Sandcastle's As You Like It at Foxearth. Very pretty B/M who I have done well before giving a 1st green ticket to her. She appeals for her lovely body shape. She has a lovely length of neck with good front and rear angulations. Her head is balanced with nice dark eye and well used ears. She was shown in good coat and condition and moved soundly. Res CC. 3. McKenna & Bardill's Ch Shulune Imperial Flower of Plaisance. S/W with super outline and balanced construction. Good head pattern and well used ears, although a little full in eye. Moved with drive and handled to advantage.

GCDSB (3,1) 1. Neff's Hightri Until. Pretty B/M with typical head, nice eye and ears. Balanced body shape and very sound movement. 2. Purvey's Freejack Touch of Magic. This B/M is of nice size and shape, typical head with nice eye but rather light ears. Moved OK.
