My thanks to the committee of this famous club for asking me to judge Smooth Collies with CC's at this fabulous venue. I had some truly lovely smooths to go over however there are one or two things I feel need to be mentioned. I found heads, on the whole, to be rather plainer than when I previously judged the breed and on a lot I would have preferred more refinement and on some there was not even a 'perceptible' stop let alone slight. I also found a lot of light eyes which I don't like. Therefore my decisions were mostly made on overall shape, elegance and soundness. I was thrilled both with the quality and the quantity of my entry. PD (2) 1 Hall's Juniperwood Jovial. A super baby of just 8 months and showing so much promise. Gold sable with lovely balance throughout and very well muscled. He has a very sweet expression from lovely eye placement and his ears are well set. Really good angulation with short hocks. Very playful on the move but did enough to show his super rear action. Best Puppy Dog. 2 Hills Devern Cascade of Stars. This tri was just 7 months old and has a lot going for him. He has a good length of back and super neck. I liked his very sweet expression and his overall balance. He was just not very happy with the whole 'showing' experience but when he gets it all together should make a very pleasing picture. JD (3,1) 1 Whites Foxearth Frappuccino. This fabulous tri was just out of puppy and what a wonderful puppy career he has had. Such a smart dog with wonderful rear angulation and short powerful hocks. I liked his overall balance with his super neck and length of back. He is very well sprung around the ribs for one so young and is in such great hard condition. He powered around the ring covering the ground with ease from his long reachy stride. His markings over his shoulders distracted me a little but going over his front assembly he is so well put together here as well. Loved his eye placement and his expression is sweet and cheeky. Very correct ear carriage and he used them to his absolute advantage. It gave me such great pleasure to give him his 4th CC and therefore his crown. Reserve best of Breed and best op Sex. 2 Howe's Dawcher Dawn's Sunrise. An upstanding gold sable with a lovely white colour of a completely different type to 1. He has a very strong body and head and he moved well enough but did not have the shear quality of Frappuccino. PGD (1) 1 Woodstock's Shulune Imperial Warrior at Haylaird. A nice gold sable with good balance throughout. He has great angles both front and rear and moved well as he is very well muscled. His head appeals with slight stop and sweet eyes and he uses his ears to advantage. Lovely temperament and obviously much loved. LD (3) 1 Hutchings Molloney Ta Tu You. A superbly balanced tri whose markings do not help him one bit. Super front and rear angulations and in great hard condition giving him a free easy movement and he really drives from his short strong hocks. Another who can really cover the ground with very little effort. He has a very nice head with correct stop and nice eye and expression. 2 Woodstock's Shulune Imperial Guard at Hylaird. A big gold sable with supper neck enhanced by his huge white collar. Lovely shoulder and front assembly and sound going away. A very well made lad who showed well and used his well placed ears to advantage. 3 Trundley's Juniperwood King of Kings. OD (3) 1 Forbes Ch.Int. & Irish CH Pelgart Paint it Black at Willowhurst. This dog has done well under me before and he still appeals now for the same reasons he did then. I just love his overall balance that comes from his really good length of back to height ratios, his long reach of neck and his superb showmanship. I find him to be an extremely elegant animal with a super front and lovely bend of stifle. He moved with drive and purpose and gave his all to his owner/handler. R CC. 2 Lister's Ch Eridor Im Mr Blue at Newarp I have also judged this dog before and then, as now, he was placed second to Paint It Black. I still find him an attractive lad and a very worthy Champion. He can certainly cover the ground and was very impressive moving in profile. Standing he gives his all to his owner/handler and constantly uses his ears to advantage. I thank his sporting owner for giving me the opportunity to handle him again. 3 Griffiths Alopex Matt Finish. PB (3) 1 Trundley's Juniperwood Jubilation. Litter sister to puppy dog winner and just has the edge on him at this moment in time. Another whose angulation, both front and rear, appeals instantly and such a smart puppy in outline. Great area carriage, pleasing head, eyes and expression are so sweet and she is well filled in forface. Completely on her toes and moved at a smart pace with such style. Best Puppy bitch and Best puppy in Breed. 2 Trundley's Juniperwood Joyful. The third from this litter. Yoyful is built slightly more on the lines of her brother Jovial. A tad more petit than her tri sister. She has a very sweet head with lovely eye and expression. Not quite so 'in your face' as the tri but certainly a lovely baby. Must have been an interesting litter to watch as they grew. 3 Hill's Devern Cascade Of Stars. JB (2) 1 Fort's Mighty's Spring Meadow Gift for Shulune. A tri with such a lovely reach of neck, great length of back and completely balanced throughout. Pleasing head, sweet expression and superb ear placement. She is trained to perfection and her short hocks enabled her to move with drive. Her owner told me she had only been in the country a few days and I congratulate her for building such a rapport with her in such a short time. Feel sure she will go on to greater things. 2 Sewell's Foxearth Dressed to Frill. A quality bitch, litter sister to my Dog CC winner and a lot of the same remarks apply. She has a lovely head with slight stop, smooth well filled foreface and the most super eye placement giving her such a lovely sweet expression. She used her ears when asked and looked good on the move both ways. Needs to tighten in topline and could not quite beat the overall balance of the winner. LB (6) 1 Hutching's Collidach Molloney Fay Mouse. A difficult class to judge to type as there was so much variation in shape. The winner is such a feminine bitch who is so well put together and the most lovely colour. Really liked her rear angulations. She has short hocks and the result on the move was plenty of drive from the rear with a good top line, held in profile, and sound in front coming. Sweet head, flat skull and pleasing eye. A quality bitch. 2 Griffith's Alopex Little Summer. This sable is a smidgen larger all over than my class winner. She has the most lovely head with pleasing stop and well rounded foreface. Such a lovely expression from her soft gentle eyes which are so expressive. I particularly liked her depth of chest, not a bit shallow and plenty of heart room. Her movement also pleased greatly as she is sound in all directions. 3 Giddings All That Jazz at Ryecombe. OB (5,2) 1 Hayward's CH Sandcastles As You Like it at Foxhearth. What a fabulous blue bitch this is. Loved everything about her. Her eye placement is super, her foreface is rounded and her whole head pleased. She has a flat skull and used her ears when asked. Great shoulder placement and good depth and spring of rib. Loved her rear angulations and short hocks. It was when she moved that I got goose bumps! I don't think I have ever seen such superb movement before on a collie and it is not just going away, her front is wonderful and in profile she just glides over the ground with apparently very little effort. Watching her power around the ring brings meaning to the phrase 'could have worked all day' I could find nothing to beat her and it gave me great pleasure to award her the CC, BoB and I was thrilled that she ended as Best in Show. 2 Fort's CH Shulune Imperial Legacy. Another wonderful smooth who has so much to like about her. A gold sable who is perhaps a shade shorter in back than my winner but still so appealing with her wonderful reach of neck and super ear carriage. I particularly liked her bend of stifle and short hocks. She has such a sweet expression from lovely eye placement and another that can move out with drive. Her showmanship is second to none and her handler makes it all look so simple. 3 Hill's Devern Fate A Compli. VB (1) 1 Hill's CH Devern Blue Silhouette. An old favourite of mine and she looked so well. Ultra feminine blue of lovely type and at coming up to 11 years of age was in excellent condition. As before it is her head and expression that melts my heart. So balanced with stop in the correct place. Her eye placement is near perfection and she uses her ears to her advantage. Her rear action pleased and she looked good in profile. It was lovely to see her again. Best Veteran in Breed.
