I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge this friendly and well run show and to the exhibitors who entered and on the whole accepted my placing graciously. Also to my stewards for ensuring everything ran smoothly. Having not judged Smooth collies for five years I eagerly looked forward to seeing and judging the exhibits that I had only read about or seen in photo’s.  I was slightly disappointed with quite a few head patterns, being short and too strong and blocky in backskull with a rounder eye. Also a few of the exhibits could have been presented in a cleaner condition.

PD (1,0) 1) Whites Foxearth Frappuccino. The first to come into the ring and the last to leave having outclassed them all. This very mature 11 mth tri has bags of quality, completely balance throughout. Clean balanced head, level planes, dark eyes .  Super neck, correct angulations and perfect length of back with strong loin. All this combined  resulted in very sound movement when viewed from any angle. Shown in top condition and handled to perfection.  DCC, BP & BOB & BPIS. I was told this was his 3rd CC and surely the obligatory one out of puppy is only a formality.

JD (4,0) 1) Swanns Plaisance George Le Beau at Swanndale . I really liked this young lad, cleanest of heads with a melting expression.  Ears perfectly set and used.  Elegant neck,  and  body which when viewed in profile is so balanced. He is still very narrow though which affected his movement. Just hope that he bodies up well with age and gains the potential he has to challenge the best. 2) Howe’s Dawcher Dawn’s Sunrise.  Very mature s/w with good bone and substance.  Stronger head pattern with sweet eye.  Good front angulations, rear could be better.  Moved OK. 3) Hyde’s Londer Every Breath I take.

PGD (2,0) 1) Moores’ Manordeifi Shadow Chaser. This average sized tri excelled in his construction.  I would have preferred a longer head pattern with a sweeter eye. Firm neck leading to a very well made front with correct angulations’ and good chest and spring of rib. Well muscled rear with good turn of stifle.  Moved with good reach and drive. 2) Russells Foxearth Fashion Guru.  S/w still needs to clean in head and develop all over, moved ok.

LD (3,0) 1) Hutchings Collidach Molloney Ta Tu You.  Another quality tri. Caught my eye for his overall shape and balance. Head handled well but still needing to clean which I am sure will come with age. Strong neck and balanced throughout. Nice level  top line and good turn of stifle. Presentation was very good and he was handled to perfection and his movement was first class. I will follow his career with interest. RDCC. 2) Winter’s Rowvale River of  Fortune at Snowtrekka  Appealed for his overall type. Nice head pattern of good length and clean, bite could be better. Nice eye and expression. Presented well.  Could not compete with Ta Tu You on the move. 3) Moores’ Manordeifi Storm Breaker.

OD (7,0) A very difficult class to judge with not much to choose between the winners. 1) Forbes’ Ch Int/Ir Ch Pelghart Paint it Black at Willowhurst.  Won the class on his overall shape and balance. Clean head planes although slightly deep in backskull. Ears well set and used.  Super neck that he used to his advantage. Good angulations at both ends and  nice deep well sprung ribs. Coat of good length and texture and presented in gleaming condition. Movement was ok, but I think like many he would benefit from and outside grass ring.  I can see why he has so many titles, but could not match the younger dogs on the move today. 2) Lister’s Ch Eridor I’M Blu at Newarp.  6 yrs B/M very well handled to make the most of his assets. Pleasing head pattern of good length and lean, would prefer a better stop.  Ears well set and used, just tipped. Strong neck and ample chest. Well angled, tail well set. Moved well and presented in good condition. 3) Hyde’s Londer Look Smart.

PB (2,1) 1) Rice’s Kingrock Adriel Up to size but very stylish tri. Very pretty clean head and long neck and good length of body gives her a very balanced look, enhanced by her lovely tight coat. Level top line and good turn of stifle. Moved OK.

JB (1,0) 1) McKenna’s Plaisance Betty La Belle. This young lady has a beautiful head with a very soft expression. Ears well  set are used non stop. Perfect size and balance.  Ample neck and good length of ribs and strong loin with nice rise. Well set tail. Movement adequate. She would have had a good chance in the challenge but I was informed by my steward that either the dog or handler were too tired to come into the ring!

PGB (3,0) 1) Russell’s Manordeifi Satin Doll 20 mth tri still very raw but has a nice clean head and good neck. Her chest still needs to drop. She has good angulations fore and aft and moved well. 2) Hutchings Colliedach Molloney Fay Mouse. Nice coloured b/m.  Shorter head pattern then 1) but very well constructed. Carrying a little too much weight which affected her movement. 3) Moores Manordeifi Silver Sparkle.

LB (5,0) (1 Hartley’s Foxearth Silver Dream at Jimjack. I have often admired this pretty b/m and was not too disappointed. Lovely lean head with a sweet expression. Good stop and ear set. Long neck and good shoulders and level top line. Lovely rounded croup and well set tail. Good coat of nice colour. Moved poorly at first, but after getting her handler to try again she improved enough to win the class. She just lacked that sparkle and showmanship  in the challenge to got a top award. This is partly to do with her handler who needs to realize that she has a top quality exhibit if she gets the best from her. 2) Griffiths’ Alopex Little Summer s/w with super construction.  Shorter head pattern then 1 but a sweet eye. Good bone. Presented and handled well and moved well. 3) Burgess’ Lilymead Appanachi

OB (7,1) 1) Normans Ch Foxearth Fashioned in Black You cannot help but notice this very glamorous tri. Beautifully balanced throughout and in gleaming condition.   Well developed in head with level planes. Dark eyes and neat well used ears. Well muscled neck and super angulations at both ends. Deep ribs and strong loin. Well set tail and good stifle and strong hocks. Tight correct coat that shined even in the dimly lit sports hall. Moved and handled well. CC. 2) Benton’s Alopex Marionette of Oakestelle.  This B/M young lady has a stunning colour that brightened up the ring. At first she looked too immature for the class but had enough quality to beat her elders. Head of good length just needing to fill in foreface. Clean flat skull and the neatest ears that she never failed to use. Eyes could be sweeter but did not detract from the overall look. Fantastic neck and good  length of back. Still needs to drop in chest and body up overall. Her handler as always had her shown to perfection and she glided round the ring. I hope she has a bright future. RCC.
