COLLIE (SMOOTH)

A super entry. Smooth Collie exhibits are a great team of people, I just wish at the moment the dogs were as great.

I cannot see myself showing, breeding or judging for much longer. My accident has put a stop to that. I do want to see the Smooth Collie return to the quality we saw in the ’80s so I hope you will not despair at my critique.

My overall picture of the exhibits were far too many small fine boned, shelly dogs & bitches, poor heads with flared skulls, light ears, light eyes & a lot with far too much coat around their neck giving them what I call a coachman’s cape. Movement ranged from poor to average with very few good movers. Presentation was excellent.

PD (3) 1 Woodstock’s Shulune Imperial Warrior, s/w, balanced head. A little flared in back skull. Nice shaped eye but could be darker. Excellent construction & moved well; 2 French’s Devern First Prime, s/w, head is rather strong in back skull which also recedes, ears are rather erratic. Fair conformation but at the moment bum high. Far too heavy in coat; 3 Page’s Norfield Oh What A Knight. JD (2) 1 D First Prime; 2 N Oh What A Knight, head is unbalanced & recedes in skull. Body shape OK. Movement poor. PGD (5) 1 Trundley’s Juniperwood King Of Kings, tri, excellent head type, balanced, well moulded foreface, nice shaped eye but could be a shade darker. Ears are a little heavy & reluctant to use them. Excellent conformation & moved well; 2 Moores’ Manordeifi Storm Breaker, tri, in the most superb condition, balanced head, slightly flared in back skull, nice expression. Eyes a little on the small side. Excellent conformation & good mover; 3 Winter & Unwin’s Rowvale River Of Fortune at Snowtrekka. LD (8,1) 1 Hyde’s Londer Look Smart, s/w, very beautiful head, eye & expression even though one of his ears have been damaged in an accident. Superb conformation, excellent coat, excelled on the move, good tail carriage. CC; 2 Winter & Unwin’s Sturtmoor Alexavier Odessy at Snowtrekka, nice type head, good conformation. Needs more reach of neck. Moved OK; 3 Moores’ Manordeifi Pathfinder. OD (7,1) 1 Davis’ Sharidon Anything Goes at Keenacre, tri, lovely head, eye & expression, excellent conformation, correct coat, good mover. RCC; 2 Larsson’s Clingstones No Doubt, s/w, balanced head which when handled is very correct but expression did not please. Very good conformation & excellent coat, moved well; 3 Forbes’ Ch/Ir Ch Pelghart Paint It Black at Willowhurst.

PB (3) 1 Timperon’s Shulune Imperial Stormmaid at Triforce, s/w, head rather deep through. Nice eye but could be darker. Nice expression, excellent body conformation. Front needs to tighten; 2 Hills’ Devern By Design, s/w, fair type head, nice eye. Needs more body & a little bum high at the moment; 3 Wallis’ Norfield Scarlet Rose. JB (2) 1 McKenna’s Shulune Imperial Flower of Plaisance, s/w, really lovely puppy, excellent head, eye & expression, very good conformation, moved very well. BP with ease; 2 S Imperial Stormmaid at T. PGB (5) 1 Griffiths’ Alopex Fine Provenance, tri, quality refined head. Well shaped eyes but would prefer a shade darker. Good well placed ears, good expression, excellent coat, very good conformation, excellent mover with correct tail carriage; 2 Trundley’s Juniperwood Final Affair, tri, good type head, good eyes & expression. Ears rather heavy. Excellent conformation. Movement erratic; 3 Moores’ Manordeifi Penny Blue. LB (6,1) 1 Moores’ Manordeifi Silvadora, b/m, nice type head, good expression, nice shaped eye but would prefer them a shade darker. Ears a little on the heavy side. Excellent conformation, good reach of neck, moved very well. RCC; 2 Gay’s Manordeifi Sapphire Mist at Yagane, nice type head. Would prefer a little more length. Good expression, very good conformation. Lacks neck of 1. Moved well; 3 Fort’s Shulune Lady of Lorien. OB (5) 1 Larsson’s Int/Nord/Sw/Dan/Fin Ch Sandcastle Storm In A Teacup, tri, superb conformation, excellent reach of neck, very good head & expression. Eye could be a shade darker. Excellent mover. CC & BOB; 2 Hills’ Devern Fate A Compli, good type head. Just a little flared in skull. Very good eye & expression, excellent coat, good conformation. Just a little slack in topline. Good mover; 3 Moores’ Manordeifi Silver Dawn.
