It was an honour to be invited to judge the parent club championship show and a good entry awaited me. I first gave CCs to Smooths in 1985, and have seen the breed go through many highs and lows since. I sincerely wish I could say this was a high period, but I'm afraid it isn't. The most troubling thing to me on the day was the lack of up-and-coming youngsters. These are the backbone of tomorrow and all breeds need them. MPD (3) 1 Purvey's Freejack Midnight Diamond. Quality tri, striking colours and in super condition, excellent bone and feet, well constructed, decent mover, pleasing in head and eye, just needs time and ears to lift a little. 2 F Midnight Dazzler. Very similar, same remarks apply, just not the head quality of his brother. 3 Stilgoe's Manordeifi Storm Shadow Of Yeldust. PD (4) 1 F Midnight Diamond. 2 Trundley's Juniperwood King Of Kings. Upstanding tri with good bone and super coat, decent conformation, but quarters could be better, feet need to improve and couldn't match the head quality of above. 3 Norman &Ratcliffe's Foxearth Follow That Dream. JD (2) 1 Hyde's Foxearth Following On. High quality tri in super condition, lovely colours, beautiful head and eye, flat skull, super ears, happy boy who showed all the time, lovely bone and feet, very good on the move, one for the future with his lovely ribbing and excellent construction, his is assured. BP and BPIS. 2 Winter &Unwin's Rowvale River Of Fortune At Snowtrekka. Decent in colour and he is quite typy, lovely neck and front, sound enough, not the croup or hindquarters of winner and just lacks a little in overall quality. ND (1) 1 Norman &Ratcliffe's Foxearth Follow On. First impression, big, handsome, well coloured tri shown in glorious condition, nice type of head, spoilt by too much loose skin and needs tighter ears, super behind the collar and a good mover too. PGD (2) 1 Griffiths' Alopex Skymaster Blue. Very good coated this blue and well presented too, nice type of head but eye could be better, lacks a little in overall balance and construction, decent on the move but tends to pace. 2 Purvey's Freejack Royal Knight. Poor coloured merle, decent outline, decent mover, head lacks chin and expression, tail carriage poor. LD (6) 1 Hyde's Londer Look Smart. Very impressive sable presented in best condition, quality all through, super head with foreface, chin, flat skull, correct stop and lovely eyes, good neck and so well bodied, boned and constructed, sound on the move, all topped with an excellent jacket, loved him, great pity about his ear. 2 Griffiths' Alopex Matt Finnish. Super coat on this tri, would like him a size bigger with better bone, decent movement, head is of good type, spoilt by his eyes. 3 Winter &Unwin's Sturtmoor Alexavier At Snowtrekka. OD (7, 2) Best class of the day. 1 Larsson's Clingstones No Doubt. What a picture, this handsome sable made with his superb outline and his showy markings, excels in neck and forehand construction, lovely front and feet, so well made with excellent hindquarters, head is long and clean and odd detail I would like different but overall a magnificent animal who moved and showed well to win CC, BOB and Res BIS. 2 Forbes' Ch/Ir Ch Pelghart Paint It Black At Willowhurst. Another handsome Smooth, this time a tri, excels in outline and overall balance of construction, stands well on lovely legs and feet, very good mover who was in gleaming condition, if a touch too fat! Head has lovely ears and is quite typy but a touch deep and expression could improve, worthy Res CC winner. 3 Lister's Ch Eridor I'm Mr Blue At Newarp. VD (4, 1) 1 Kennedy's Foxearth Fore Shore. High quality tri, lovely head, eye and super expression, loved his type and balance, still goes well at 11 years, a credit to his owners. 2 Howe's Ch Rowvale Rainbow Warrior. This blue excels on the move, so sound and in hard, fit condition, touch heavy now and not the head of winner. 3 Tuck's Ch Dark Motif From Mistoff. MPB 1 Howarth's Rambling Rose Cownbred, decent coloured blue, pleasing in head type, bit lacking in front construction, decent mover with good feet. 2 Moores' Manordeifi Sweet Suzanna. Very pretty head on this tri, spoilt by her eyes, good overall construction, but, oh dear, that tail! 3 Wallis' Freejack Mississippi Magic At Norfield. PB (7, 1) 1 Hartley's Foxearth Silver Dream At Jimjack. Very pretty blue, decent colour with rich tan, typy head, needing to clean out in stop, neat ears, lovely neck giving elegant outline, good mover, Best PB. 2 Campbell's Glencorrie Dusky Diva. This tri was shown in beautiful condition and is so well made, at her best going round, her typy head is spoilt by her eyes. 3 Rambling Rose C. JB (2, 1) 1 Hayward's Rowvale Rainbows End At Foxearth. Colour needing to clear on this blue, good front construction and lovely feet, not so good in croup or hind movement, head a touch strong and a bit too much stop, lovely ears and in best condition. NB (2) 1 M Sweet Suzanna. 2 Purvey's Freejack A Touch Of Magic. Decent colour blue, decent conformation, very good neck, typy head but ears too wide and tend to prick, awful tail. PGB (5, 2) 1 Moores' Manordeifi Penny Blue. Poor colour and markings on this merle and shown too fat, typy head, spoilt by her eyes, decent conformation, decent mover when not pacing. 2 Edwards' Cownbred Follies Bergerg At Bothways. This tri has a nice head type and a better eye than winner but she is somewhat narrow through and has very poor feet. 3 Stilgoe's Foxearth Fatal Beauty At Yeldust. LB (6, 3) 1 Giddings' Foxearth Gold Filligree. Fabulously pigmented sable of high quality, lovely head with flat skull and lovely dark eyes, good neck and balance of outline, very good movement and shown in top condition, just a touch flat in feet and pastern on the day. 2 Griffiths' Alopex Out Of The Blue. Pretty coloured blue with a quality head on good neck, good conformation and a good jacket on her, sound on the move, eye and expression, just not as pleasing as winner. 3 Purvey's Chicnoir Lil's Little Love Via Snuggletooth. OB (5, 2) 1 Hutchings' Ch Foxearth Flourescence At Molloney. Gorgeous coloured blue, shown and presented in tip top condition, very pretty head with most details correct, lovely neck and front, good ribs, just a touch steep over the croup which cost her the CC. Moved and showed well. Res CC. 2 Larsson's Int Ch Sandcastles Storm In A Teacup. High quality tri, excellent in neck and outline, very good movement, pleasing in head and eye, could just have a touch more underjaw, liked this bitch a lot, unfortunately not in the gleaming condition of the winner. 3 Burton's Ch Glencorrie Be Gorgeous. VB (5, 3) 1 Garnett's Sharidon Miss American Pie At Knipes. Wow, what a stunner. 11 plus years and still immaculate in every way, the best construction in the entire show, and the best movement, just fabulous on the move, shown in glorious condition and so lovely and correct to go over. Minor details of her head I would alter, my only surprise, she wasn't a Ch!! Won CC with a bit in hand, very difficult decision for BOB, the dog won it after a tussle. I understand she has a previous CC, so good luck for that third, you richly deserve it. 2 Giddings' Ch Foxearth Finesse At Sandwick. Lovely coloured blue, again shown in lovely condition, pity about her ear, but just couldn't match first in conformation. Brace 1 Purveys. 2 Wallis.
