It is always an honour to be asked to officiate at this show, especially in a
breed which has such a special place in my affections. I was also grateful to my
stewards, Messrs Breach & Bishop, for their contribution to the smooth running
of the ring, which enabled us to finish in good time in spite of being third
breed in the ring.
For me, the exhibits in the earlier classes lacked a degree of quality which
(thank Heaven) was more evident in the later classes. Movement in general, was
not as I would have wished. There were very few with the correct bend of stifle,
thus inhibiting their hind action. A couple exhibited a high stepping front
action & very few produced the graceful, flowing action required, & which was so
evident in my BOB. Some bitches were considerably overweight.
VD (3) 1 Westby's Loweerpark Pipe
Major, 11 year old tri, liked his head properties, & he presented a picture of
overall balance & outline. He has a nice expression, albeit a bit lazy with his
ears. His hind angulation impressed having the correct bend of stifle. Movement
was adequate in view of his age, but he was a little wide going away. Coat was
not in best condition; 2 Tucj's Ch Dark Motif from Misstoff, pleasing 8 ½ year
old boy, nice head type with dark eyes, correctly placed & well used ears, had a
tight jacket of good colour, would prefer more hind angulation. He was not so
well balanced as the winner. His showmanship was excellent; 3 Howe's Ch Rowvale
Rainbow Warrior, 11 years b/m has a typy, clean head with two level planes &
defined stop, his coat is of good colour. I found him a little full in eye &
unsettled on the move. PD (2) 1
Winter & Unwin’s Rowvale River Of Fortune at Snowtrekka, 10 months b/m with
pleasing head properties, defined stop & flat skull, well balanced throughout
with good depth of chest, nicely broken b/m coat of good texture, shown in good
condition & moved OK; 2 Evans' Southcombe Starman, 9 months b/m of good size,
quite promising, but head needs to clear in stop. Good neck & shoulder
placement. Just needs to settle more on the move.
JD (1) 1 Keen's Manordeifi Paisley
Blue at Nashanessen, b/m, good head type, although I would prefer more backskull.
His ears are well placed. Shown in nice condition, but needs to tighten up in
front movement. PGD (6,2) 1 Wallis'
Freejack First Knight at Norfield, handsome yearling tri with good head
properties, although slightly round in eye which, however, was dark. Well
constructed with a good bend of stifle, covered by a tight fitting coat of
excellent colour & texture. Was more settled on the move after a change of
handler; 2 Eke's Foxearth Fred Perry, 5 year old tri with a great masculine
outlook, his head has a correctly placed stop dividing two level planes, nicely
put together, he moved well & is a quality dog. Unfortunately his ear carriage
will prevent him from winning top awards; 3 French's Chicnoir Follow On at
Frendet, 2 ½ years attractive sable, he has a lovely head & expression, but fine
all through & rather short in back. His coat is of good texture & he moved well,
but lacked masculinity. LD (5,1) 1
Wallis' Norfield Soulmate, 3 ½ year old s/w, impressive, masculine & of correct
size, well balanced, has a great outline. I loved his head, with a sweet, kind
eye, giving a lovely expression. Shown in excellent condition. Surely one for
the top. RCC; 2 Gadd's Snuggletooth Olivers Twist via Chicnoir, 4 ½ year old
shaded sable. Smaller than winner, but very appealing in head & expression, with
well placed ears. Well balanced throughout, & shown in good condition. Movement
was OK; 3 Fullwood's Darsign Minstrel Blue, 4 year old who has an appealing head
with flat skull & correct stop, & nice eyes. Moved OK & was obviously enjoying
his day out. OD (9,2) 1 Norman &
Ratcliffe's Ch Foxearth Flash Past, now 6 years old, he is an old favourite of
mine who can, sometimes disappoint in performance. Today he pulled out all
stops. He has a lovely balanced head with flat skull, correct stop & well filled
foreface, his kindly melting expression is to die for. With super angulation
fore & aft, he uses that lovely reach of neck to advantage. Shown in great
condition he moved well, if a little wide behind. This cost him BOB to the
enchanting bitch; 2 Lister's Ch Eridor I'm Mister Blue at Newarp, 3 year old b/m
who has hit the high spots this year. This is a very well constructed dog who
will always appeal for his balance & good head properties, he used his ears to
advantage, & was shown in excellent condition. Just preferred the expression of
the winner as there was nothing to choose between them in relation to movement;
3 Defeuter’s Lux Ch Markyllas Stardust, this 3 ½ year old s/w, bred by a well
known kennel on the Continent, & is very much to type. Well angulated &
balanced, gives a pleasing outline, lovely head pattern with correct stop &
level skull, showed & moved well. Just a little full in eye.
GCD (4,2) 1 Ch Dark Motif from M; 2
Winter & Unwin's Sturtmeer Alexavier Odessy at Startrekka, reserve in a previous
class, this tri is of a larger type who appealed for his steady temperament &
sweet expression. Another who could have a better bend of stifle.
VB (6,1) 1 Garret’s Sharidon Miss
American Pie at Knipes, very sprightly 11 years tri who showed her head off,
lovely clean head with correct ear carriage, well angulated with good length of
back, moved well; 2 Hill's Ch Devern Blue Silhouette, this 7 ½ year old b/m has
won well under me in the past, but today, she did not have the sparkle of the
winner A nicely shaped bitch, very feminine, & she moved well; 3 French's
Frendet Fantasia, approaching 11 years this feminine tri has a very sweet head &
expression, & used her ears well. Being so well constructed this bitch is of a
nice type. PB (2) 1 Marsden’s
Rowvale Rags To Riches, of a lovely type this young lady is very promising, she
has a nice head with dark eyes, if a little round. Used her neck to advantage &
has a great outline. She does need to settle in ear carriage & on the move; 2
Neff's Hightri Until, nice, feminine blue of correct size, good depth of chest,
but not quite the hind angulation I was looking for. Her coat is of correct
texture & she moved reasonably well, but was not putting all in.
JB (1) 1 Moore 's Manordeifi Penny
Blue, 18 months old with good head patterns having the correct profile & nicely
placed ears, well proportioned giving a balanced look, moved & showed well but
needs to clear in colour. PGB (6,2)
1 Gay's Manordeifi Sapphire Mist at Yagane, yearling b/m of quality, who
typifies her breeding. Elegant with good construction & bend of stifle. Pleasing
in head properties with nice, dark eyes. Her coat is of good texture, & she
moved OK; 2 Moore 's Manordeifi Silvadora, I see she is sister to the winner,
being slightly larger but feminine. Well constructed with good length of back &
angulation. Nice type of head but preferred expression of winner. No doubt these
two will change places sometimes; 3 Burgess' Lilymead Appanchi, approaching 3
years, this tri is finer in bone than the two above. She has the correct length
of head with a flat skull & well placed ears. Good conformation throughout, &
moved adequately. LB (9,2) 1 Fort's
Shulune Lady of Orien, this pretty s/w is 2 ½ years old. She has the graceful,
flowing lines required with correct length of back & lovely angulation. Lovely
head with melting expression & showed well; 2 Giddings’ Foxearth Gold Filligree,
same age as winner, & bred in the purple she is of similar type, having correct
head & good conformation. I also liked her expression & she moved & showed well;
3 Moore 's Manordeifi Silver Dawn, this 5 ½ year old b/m did so well under me as
a puppy, & I thank her sporting owner for entering her under me again. She has a
well balanced head, good length of back & is well put together. Her coat is of
good texture & colour. If only she had made the most of herself she could have
been placed higher. OB (8,1) 1
Hayward ’s Sandcastles As You Like It at Foxearth, when this 3 year old walked
into the ring she just stood & looked at me. I thought wow! Having avoided the
Smoothie ring in view of this appointment I was hoping to find a new star. This
was it! This elegantly feminine bitch has the neatest head with correct eyes &
ears giving her that quick, alert look. Well constructed, she has the right
amount of body condition, the whole scene covered by a silvery blue jacket with
small merled patches, & no heavy markings. Easily the best moving Smooth here
today, she floated. I had no hesitation in awarding her the CC & BOB; 2 Hill's
Devern Fate A Compli, 3 year old tri who presented a picture of balance. Has the
correct length of back with good turn of stifle. Shown in good order & she moved
well as her conformation would suggest. Unlucky to meet the above. RCC; 3
Sewell’s Ch Foxearth Farris via Lewarne, 5 year old tri who is well up to size,
but all is in proportion. She has a neat head, plenty of charisma, & moved well,
but lacked femininity for me. GCB
(4,1) 1 F Gold Filligree; 2 M Silver Dawn; 3 Hutchings’ Foxearth Fluorescent at
Molloney, this 4 ½ year old is very pretty, with a nicely coloured blue coat.
Very feminine with good head properties & her movement was OK.
