Considering being a replacement judge, this was quite an enjoyable appointment. It was a pity the weather was so cold and wet, and thank the exhibitors for their. Patience after their long wait...I felt the quality overall was good, with some very nice specimens, the only noticeable problem was "high tail carriage", only a small percentage of exhibits carried their tail correctly, otherwise I think the breed has improved since my last appointment.
p (6) a very nice class with some very nice puppies on view. 1. French’s Lilymead Amazing Grace. Blue of 11months, this bitch appealed to me in every aspect, except her colour, she was in correct balance, she has the loveliest head with correct stop, moulded foreface, almond eye with a sweet expression, she has beautiful ears right on top, good outline and hindquarters, moved well with correct tail carriage, At the moment her pale blue coat lacks definition, and has sable overtones, I hope in time it will clear in colour, as she is amost promising bitch, with a great deal to offer. BP. 2. Robinson’s. Dawcher Dream Searcher, another lovely tri.of 11months, she has a good neck, presenting a good overall profile, she is very mature and finished, clean refined head, well placed eye and good ears, it is a pity that her tail carriage let her down. 3. Fort’s Shulune Lady of Lorien
J (2) 1. Lilymead Amazing Grace. 2. Fort’s Shalune Lord Haldir well presented male, nice outline still a puppy, and as often is the case his head needs to settle, and I would prefer a better nose line.
PGD (1) 1 Forbes Pelghart Pied Piper of Willowhurst. A very glamorous upstanding tricolour 20 months, quite an attractive dog, jet black coat, which has a high proportion of white markings, he has tremendous depth and spring of rib, and a very nice head, eye and expression, plus good ears, he is a very nice dog overall, but disappointing tail carriage.
LD (2.) 1. Hayward’s Foxearth Londer Lladro 18 months , top quality, this rich red sable has the most beautiful head, eye and expression, well filled flat skull, correct stop, moulded foreface and good underjaw plus good ears, in fact I would go as far as to say I think he has one of the nicest heads on Smooth Collie male I have had the pleasure the judge. He is a masculine dog, with good hindquarters, and moved quite well behind, with correct tail carriage, at the moment he appears rather loose in front action, I feel he needs a little more time to firm up and come together, and use himself more, I consider he has great attributes to offer the breed. Reserve CC. 2. Wallis’s Norfield Soul Mate. Standing this 2yr old has a masculine outlook, quite a glamorous dog, although he appears rather long in profile, and he had not quite the angulation behind of the winner, he is rather strong and deep through in head profile, and I would prefer a better stop & lipline., however, he has a good bone & front, and pleasant expression and good ears.
OD (2) 1. Norman & Ratcliffe’s Ch. Foxearth Flashpast. Impressive sable who at 4yrs old is in his prime, I had the pleasure of judging him as a raw youngster, where I awarded him the reserve CC in hot company, today, he looked in excellent form, he is a dog I have always admired especially for his superb head, with parallel planes and most lovely eye & expression, well filled flat skull, moulded foreface and good ears. And straight front, he has an adequate neck, although, this is not helped by his collar markings, which can create an optical illusion. I would prefer a slightly stronger backline, but he has good depth and spring of rib, moved out quite well, and to be critical I would prefer his tail carriage to be lower, nevertheless he is a beautiful Smooth whom I had the pleasure of awarding the CC & B.O.B. 2. Griffiths Alopex Highland Fling. Tri almost 3yrs old who really moved out round the ring, excellent front and hind angulation, he has a very nice head with well filled flat skull moulded foreface, unfortunately looks to be casting his coat, I would like to see his eyes a little darker, he was also well presented and handled to every advantage.
LB (2). 1. Robinsons Hilltarn Valentine, elegant tri who has the most beautiful outline, she has a superb neck and shoulder, stands four square, her movement was a joy to see, being so sound with correct tail carriage. She has a clean moulded head, well filled flat skull, and v.g. ears, she came very close to winning the CC but could not quite match Private Dancer in expression, no doubt should gain her title with ease Reserve CC. 2. Haywards Foxearth Fire of Love at Lilymead, this tricolour, had the sweetest temperament, she just wagged her tail throughout, and was quite happy in the surroundings which were not idyllic! her markings do not help her, as she has little in the way of glamour to break up the colour pattern, as she has tri sable front legs, and hindquarters, she has good depth and spring of rib, but I found her slightly out of balance. Her assets are her lovely head, with correct stop, and very sweet eye and expression, unfortunately her ears detract somewhat,. as they are rather heavy and she could be firmer in movement.
OB (4) 1. Gibson’s Pelghart Private Dancer 4yr old most elegant feminine tri, who has the most beautiful outline, presenting an ideal silhouette, handled perfectly by her young handler on a loose lead without fuss, she has the most lovely refined clean head, with correct head profile, flat skull, moulded foreface, correct stop, and lovely dark almond eye, giving a sweet expression, she possesses beautiful neat ears. good front & hindquarters and moved well with correct tail carriage, she presented a lovely picture from any angle, and won me over completely to award her the CC 2. Hyde’s Foxearth Future Magic. 4yr old bright golden sable, she is very mature in body, with excellent depth and spring of rib, good hindquarters and straight front,, she moved quite well, also she has a well filled flat skull, but I would prefer a slightly better head profile, and cleaner stop, she has a well placed eye giving the desired expression, and was very well handled. 3. Forbes Hilltarn Chance.
