I would like to thank the Crufts committee for giving me the honour of judging, and the exhibitors for such a quality entry and wonderful sportsmanship shown on the day, I was very proud on hearing that my results were welcomed so well. It was so nice to see so many exhibitors from overseas - especially one from the USA - this dog was very impressive and presented and handled to perfection. Though an incredible showman, he just did not fit the UK Standard, but thank you for giving me the chance to go over him. DCC and BOB was Macgregor’s, Ch. Moonwalker from Mistoff. Nothing to touch him on the day. Was on top form from the minute he entered the ring. Elegant yet workmanlike in his construction, he has so much to offer the breed. Head of correct balance with the right amount of stop, ears well used and showing a kind intelligent expression. Well filled muzzle and good underjaw, strong neck with good crest leading to good lay of shoulder. Excellent front, good bone, deep chest and well sprung ribs. Correct length to height ratio.

Good bend of stifle and strong hocks. Well muscled hindquarters allowed him to power around the ring on well padded strong feet. Saw him in the Group ring and I was very proud to see him standing with such dignity. Res DCC was Hangasma and Savlund’s, Int/Nord/K. Oneways Errol Flynn. I just loved this dog, hard to believe that he is almost 11 years old as he looked so youthful and could certainly show some of the youngsters how to move. He has such a beautiful outline and in such hard show condition he looked so stunning on the day. Jet black coat with full white collar and looked a picture of health and vitality. Head handles so well and he has the most beautiful expression with perfect ear placement. Good length of head, well filled muzzle with correct amount of stop. Well arched neck and correct lay back of shoulder.

Super front with good depth of chest giving plenty of heart room. Presented and handled so well, but it was his movement that clinched it for me, as he moved with good reach and strong driving action giving ground coverage with a light easy gait. BCC was Whittingham’s, Southcombe Society Girl. Tri colour with style. Beautiful elegant outline and so very feminine. Everything harmonious and so well balanced throughout. Her whole being fits the standard and she gives the impression she could work all day. Head is correct and although her eye could be a touch sweeter this does not spoil her expression, as the shape is correct and along with perfect ear carriage gives the look of a keen intelligent Collie. Neck is of good length and shoulders correctly leading into strong back with nice rise over the loin.

Well muscled hindquarters. Good bend of stifle and strong hocks with tight well padded feet. Moved effortlessly giving good ground cover. Res BCC was Macgregor’s, Ch. Southcombe Sophisticate at Rowvale. Tri colour bitch of quality who is so well balanced. Construction as near to the standard as you could wish for. Lovely head and expression, neat ears. Strong topline and well muscled hindquarters. Good bend of stifle and well let down hocks. Jet black coat of correct texture; harsh’ with the right amount of undercoat, pure white shawl collar set off her lovely neck and shoulders. Movement could not be faulted and pushed winner hard for top spot little to choose between these two lovely bitches. Best Puppy was Hill’s, Devern Fate a Compli. Very pretty tri colour bitch who pulled out all the stops here. Shaping up well for a bright future. Lovely head type with sweet expression. Good ears well used, showing so well for her handler. Should mature into a very nice bitch. Well constructed and having the right amount of bone at this stage in her development. Sound in movement and gave a good account of herself.

VD. (3). 1. Hangasma and Savlund’s, Int/Nord/K. Oneways Errol Flyn. Res CC. 2. Howe’s, Ch. Rainbow Warrior. Blue of good colour. A very handsome dog with quality head and lovely expression. In good hard condition and has a coat of excellent texture. Steady show dog who is a sound mover. Never put a foot wrong. 3. French’s, Delmbush Crackerjack at Frendet JW. At 10 years old still looking good and shown in excellent condition. Head ratios elegance and he has a sweet expression.

SpPD. (2). 1. Hayward’s, Foxearth Londor Lladro. What a beautiful sable dog this is. He has the most divine expression coming from correct shaped dark eye and super ear placement. Rather raw at the moment and a little loose in front movement but when he gets it all together will be a dog to be reckoned with as he has all the credentials to take him to the top. Shall watch his progress with interest. 2. Trundley’s, Lilymead Agamennon. Blue merle rather enjoying his day out. Ears need to settle but his head handles well and he has a nice expression. Some ring training to get his act together as his movement needs to be worked on, but should progress well.

SpJD. (2). 1. Purvey’s Freejack the Highlander. Tricolour of nice type but would like more substance. Good head type, nice dark eyes and neat ears. Neck of good length but front could be better. Time is on his side, movement could have been more positive. 2 Forbes’ Pelghart Pied Piper of Willowhurst. Tricolour of good size, pleasing head and nice expression with nice ears. Strong neck of good length, tail not his fortune which spoilt the overall outline of the dog on the move.

PGD (5) 1 Haywards’, Foxearth Frenchy. Very stylish blue merle who impressed with his overall balance and sound movement. Head handles well with correct stop and well filled muzzle. Eye and ear placement gave a lovely expression. Good front and spring of rib. Good hind angulation and strong hocks. 2. Wallis’s, Norfield Soul Mate. Strong male who has a lovely expression, good ears and strong neck and shoulders. Well sprung ribs. Well muscled throughout. I would like to see a more positive movement and better tail carriage. 3. Gadd’s, Chicnoir Snow Wolfe. Handsome blue merle male who impressed with his overall construction. Lovely head and sweet expression. Coat of good colour and texture and beautifully presented. Not masculine enough for me, but a sound moving dog.

LD. (5). 1. Gadd’s, Chicnoir Best Mate. Rich golden sable who has been slow to mature and should soon be coming to his best. He has a well balanced head with beautiful expression. Well placed ears, correct neck and shoulder leading to a good length of back. Hind legs well angulated. Presented and handled so well. He just needs a little more weight on him to complete the picture. 2. Griffiths’, Alopex Highland Fling. Very elegant young tri colour built like he could do a days work, yet he still has the elegance one likes to see in this breed. Head handles well and he is very attentive and alert. Well balanced outline with good spring of rib and well muscled hindquarters and strong hocks. Should mature into a very useful dog. 3. Moores’, Manordeifi Solar Eclipse. Very masculine tri colour who shows off a lovely outline when standing and cane really power round the ring. Head handles well and he has lovely dark expressive eyes. Well muscled neck and shoulders. Well sprung ribs and well angulated hindquarters, although his coat could be tighter, it is jet black and beautifully presented, as always shown and handled so well.

OD. (9). What a lovely class of quality dogs. 1. MacGreggors’, Ch. Moonwalker From Mistoff. CC and BOB. 2. Evans’s, Manordeifi Smart Guy at Southcombe. Have admired this dog from the ringside and was not disappointed on going over him. So masculine and with the most beautiful dark well shaped eye and correct ear placement gave the true Collie expression. Head of correct length with flat skull and well filled muzzle. His coat is a rich shaded sable and of correct texture. Strong well arched neck, excellent shoulders. Good forechest and well sprung ribs gave this dog the outline I was looking for. Good bend of stifle and well let down hocks enabled him to power round the ring with good reach and strong drive almost effortlessly. Sure to gain his title. 3. Gadds’, Chicnoir Quartermaster. Another lovely sable dog who is slowly maturing into a very useful Collie. Good front and well angulated hindquarters. Strong hocks and neat tight well padded feet. Loved his clean head, good stop and flat skull, well filled muzzle. Eyes dark and of correct size and shape along with good ear placement gave true Collie expression. Sure his day will come.

GOOD CITIZEN D (2). 1. Purvey’s, Freejack the Highlander. 2. Tuck’s, Dark Motif from Mistoff. Very stylish tri colour. Lovely head and expression, although not so masculine as his brother, he carried the same qualities. Presented in excellent condition.

VB. (5). 1. Lister’s, Ch. Newarp Jesena Moonlight Sonata. At almost 11 years of age has been a true ambassador for the Smooth Collie. Blue merle whose head handles well and she still has a bright alert expression. Coat is harsh to touch with the correct amount of undercoat and as always presented and handled expertly. Her front pasterns not so strong and it was inevitable she had to step aside for the younger star of the day. 2. Moore’s, Ch. Manordeifi Silver Serenade. Another lovely blue bitch who does not look anything like a veteran. Still in sparkling form and acting like a 2 year old. Presented and handled well. 3. French’s, Frendet Fantasia. Tri colour who is well constructed and has a lovely head and sweet expression. Very feminine and just the right size. Movement could be better.

SpPB. (4). 1. Hills’, Devern Fate a Compli. BP. 2. Burgess’s, Lilymead Apananchi. Tri colour who has very feminine expression. Although overall good shape not so good in front and this showed in her movement. Her head is of good proportions. Ears alert and attentive. Showed well. 3. Gibson’s, Pelghart Perhaps Perhaps. Clean head, sweet expression. Elegant body lines. Just needs to fill out and body up to complete the picture.

SpJB. (2). 1. Coates’s, Starlight Spirit at Pencloda. Sweet little bitch, very feminine. Nice outline with well angulated hindquarters. Good tailset. Moved well. 2. Purvey’s, Freejack Oh Mi Mi. Bitch with very nice head pattern. Sweet expression and good ear placement. Mind not really on the job in hand. Carrying too much white on stifles, but sound mover.

PGB. (9). 1. Evans’s, Southcombe She’s the One. Lovely sable bitch who is so very feminine and has such a beautiful back of shoulder, superb front and well sprung ribs all go to enhance this lovely bitche’s outline. On the move never put a foot wrong. Her time will come. 2. White’s, Chicnoir Sea Spray from Dancerwood. What a little beauty. This golden sable has all the credentials to go to the top. Lovely head and dreamy expression. Good body lines and lovely bone. Good front and depth of chest, well sprung ribs. Just needs some one to move her at a better pace to show off her these qualities. 3. Taylor’s, Snuggletooth Fillys Fancy from Trageeda. Tri colour built on similar lines. Lovely head on this bitch and very appealing expression. Jet black coat gleaming with health and vitality. Should mature up well.

LB. (6). 1. Robinson’s, Hilltarn Velentine. Such a well balanced tri colour bitch who oozes quality. Head of good length with correct top. Flat skull, neat ears that she used so well. So very attenetive and alert, never puts a foot wrong both standing and on the move. Coming along very well and should mature into a lovely bitch. 2. Burton’s, Glencorrie Begorgeous. These two have changed places many times and will continue to do as they are built on similar lines. Very feminine with lovely dreamy expression. Good neck and shoulder. Well angulated throughout and moving so well. Lovely hindquarters and neat feet. Very little to choose. 3. Taylor’s, Snuggletooth Fillys Fancy from Trageeda.

OB. (9). 1. Whittingham’s, Southcombe Society Girl. CC and BOS. Sophisticate at Rowvale. RCC. 3. Robinson’s, Ch. Southcombe Sweet As a Nut. Breeder must be very proud. This sable is full of quality having a beautiful head and expression. Lovely arched neck and good shoulder placement. Excellent front. Deep chest and well sprung ribs. Attentive and so very alert at all times. Never put a foot wrong. Shown in superb condition so I was surprised to head her owner say that she has now been retired.

GOOD CITIZEN B (4). 1. Moores’, Manordeifi Party Doll. Very attractive tri colour who was so full of vitality. Built like she could work all day. Very pretty head and expression. Neat ears, made a lovely outline standing and went well on the move. Should be shown more as she could hold her own in any class. 2. Purvey’s, Chicnoir Hors-La-Loi III. Well balanced bitch with pleasing head and eye. Built on good body lines and well angulated throughout. In good coat and condition. Sound on the move. 3. Purvey’s, Freejack Oh Mi Mi.
