Many thanks a numerically good entry, with very few absentees. I was impressed with the quality of the exhibits, with some good honest Smooths going home without awards on the day. With today’s entry it is pleasing to see the Breed on such a high. One or two exhibits needed a little more attention paying to the way in which they are prepared for the ring, only one exhibit was in need of attention to its teeth, for the comfort of the Smooth concerned I hope this is attended to soon. The great thing about judging is that one only has to evaluate the dogs on the day, it is up to you the exhibitors to keep an eye on your charges and acknowledge when they are going through the ‘gangly stage.’ It was a shame that there was very little shade to be had in or around the ring, some dogs coped far better than others, unfortunately those that did not paid the price. Last time I judged I found far too many very lean exhibits, I was please to see that this is being addressed, and once again we are seeing Smooths with a spring of rib. PD 3 (1) 1st & BPD. Hindes Chicnoir Sea Biscuit, 6 month old S/W, with good out line, his body has the correct height to length proportions, and has plenty of bone to grow on to. Good front and rear angulation. His head is a clean wedge, ears set well although a little heavy still. Sweetest of eyes giving a melting expression. Coat is nice and tight and of good texture. 2nd Clark’s Astrellita Dr Dray, tri with good body shape but without the head properties of 1st. JD 4 (0) 1st. Hindes Snuggletooths Oliver’s Twist via Chicnoir. 6mth S/W who has a lovely body shape with correct angulation front and rear, head with good wedge, eyes well placed and ears on top. Needs to fill in foreface. Moved well without flagging. However, he is built on fine lines. I hope he fills out with age and meets the required height for the standard. 2nd. Hayward’s Foxearth High Falutin, S/W who is correctly made for body shape, he has a tight, harsh jacket. Head is a very pleasing wedge, which handles well, good eye placement. However, he refused to co-operate with his handler at all, and did not make the most of himself. His movement was rather erratic. I feel he was one of those who felt the heat most, a great shame. 3rd. Clark’s Glencorrie Beworthy for Astrellita. PG. 3 (0) 1st. Moores Manordeifi Solar Eclipse, tri with correct body shape, good front and rear angulation, which results in good movement. Good wedge shaped head, dark eye, used ears to give a pleasing collie expression. 2nd. Davis’s Sharidon Anything Goes at Keenacre. Another tri, built on the same lines as the 1st. Also moved well, however, I preferred the eye of the class winner. 3rd. Hindes Foxearth Oliver’s Footprint to Chicnoir. LD. 2 (0) 1st . Webb’s Dancerwood Dangerman at LLevol. S/W with wedge head, eye is dark and almond shape, giving pleasing expression. Strong neck onto well angulated shoulder, good spring of rib, good rear angulation. He has correct body shape which is covered by a coat of short, harsh texture. 2nd. Hindes Chicnoir Best Mate. S/W a little shorter in back than 1st. He has a slightly darker eye than 1st, however, I feel he was affected by the heat today, and did not make the most of himself. OD 7 (3) 1st. CC. BOB & BIS Norman’s Foxearth Flash Past. S/W with clean wedge head of classic proportions. Eye is well placed and dark, ears on top, giving excellent collie expression. Strong neck onto well placed shoulder, adequate spring of rib, slight rise over loin, nicely rounded croup, tail well set and carried. This all combines to give him a body shape which is spot on. His coat is tight and harsh. Moves well, with good rear drive, plenty of scope when viewed in side gait. As yet he has not reached full maturity, but with no signs of coarseness this will only improve him. The co-operation between dog and handler made him unbeatable of the day; I was thrilled he carried off the BIS trophy. 2 Hindes Chicnoir Quartermaster. Another quality S/W with correct body shape, and good angulation. Harsh and tight jacket. Clean wedge head, with well placed eye, use his ears to advantage. Moved well, and pulled out the stops to win RCC. 3rd. Wills Merland Mystery Man of Jarlana. VD. 3 (1) 1st. Merland Mystery Man of Jarlana. Tri with correct height to length ratio, move well and had a more pleasing head than 2nd 2nd. Purvey’s Chicnoir midnight Magic at Freejack. Good body shape and moved well. In bitches to take top awards the exhibits had to more than shine in today’s competition, they had to sparkle. PB 7 (1) Strong class, which bodes well for the Breeds future. 1st & BP. Hutchings & Waite’s Foxearth Fluorescence at Molloney. 2nd Macgregor’s Foxearth Flaunt It For Rowvale. B/M litter sisters, saw these two as very young babies, there was not much between them then, or now. Both have lovely heads with well placed eyes, (Fluorescence has two blue) which are good shape and size. Each had ears on top and showed constantly. Winner had just slightly more length of back on the day, (I am sure as they grow this will chop and change) coming and going they both move equally well, however, when assessing their movement in side profile the winner has just that bit more scope because of the fractionally longer back. Both handlers are to be congratulated for sympathetic handling which got the best from these puppies. 3rd. Curtis’s Foxearth Ollie’s Oh La La. JB 5 (2) 1st. Robinson’s Hilltarn Valentine. Tri with good body shape, and in good condition. Nice spring of rib, and well rounded croup. Moved well. She has a tight, harsh coat of pure black. Wedge shaped head which is clean and handles well. Eye is well placed and dark. Used ears well. 2nd. Whittingham’s Southcombe Society Girl. Another tri who like class winner has correct body shape, coat colour and texture is good. Moved well. Head pleasing just preferred the eye and expression of 1st. 3rd. Taylor’s Snuggletooth Fillys Fancy Among Trageda. PGB 8 (2) A class full of compromises. 1st. Moores Manordeifi Silver Dawn. B/M of quality, beautifully balanced throughout. Clean wedge head having no flaring to it. Eye well placed and pleasing shape. Strong neck onto good shoulders, good spring of rib. Tail set a bit high, and carried higher on the move. Good rear angulation which gives her terrific movement. Although she used her ears well they are still a bit heavy, I do hope they come up, as this unfortunately spoils an other wise lovely bitch. 2nd. Clark’s Derbypark Starstruck. Tri who just makes the size; she is completely balanced and has a lovely out line. Head is a good wedge shape, with dark eyes and keeps her ears on top. Good length to height ratio, well rounded croup, good tail set. She lacked body on the day, and for one of her build it makes a great difference on the day. 3rd. Bullion’s Flame of Love at Ostarain. LB. 8 1st. Douglas’ Foxearth Speckled Wood. Tri in excellent condition. Head is a nice clean wedge, well placed dark eye, ears on top all the time which gives her a pleasing expression. Correct length to height ratio making her nicely balanced. Good front and rear angulation resulting in good movement. 2 Robinson’s Southcombe Sweet as a Nut. S/W who I last judged and did well as a puppy. Good out line having a well balanced body, good angulation front and rear which enables her to move well. Wedge shaped head with nice eye, she would benefit from a little more fill in her muzzle. OB 7 (2) An exceptional class 1st & BCC Hayward’s Foxearth castles In The Sky. S/W. She like the dog CC winner shouts quality when coming into the ring. She has a lovely wedge head with a dark, well placed eye, and used her ears when asked to give a sweet collie expression. Strong neck onto good shoulders, nice spring of rib, well rounded croup with a well set tail. This is all topped off with the tightest of coats with is a really good texture. Lost out to the dog on movement for BOB. 2nd. & RCC Chapman’s’ Sharidon Silver Belle. B/M who has finally come into her own. I do hope that she will be shown more. Clean wedge head, the eye is well placed and appealing, on the day she had her ears on top nearly all the time, however, I just preferred the expression of 1st. Good strong neck on to well laid shoulder. Has a good spring of rib, nice rise over loin with a lovely rounded croup. Tail well set and carried. Moved well. Coat colour is good and unlike some B/M is short and of harsh texture. She and her handler were relaxed with each other, which helped her push the CC winner hard. 3rd. Curtis Ch Snuggletooth Flurry’s Filly. VB. 4 (0) 1st. Sewell’s Ch Foxearth Farah. Quality tri who looked younger than her years. Pleasing wedge shaped head with well placed eye, ears on top to give good expression. She is larger than I prefer, however, today she was in tip top condition, this and the fact that she is well balanced put her in contention for top awards. Despite the heat she moved well. 2nd. White’s Dancerwood Dollar Girl. S/W who again is well balanced having correct length to height ratio. Good head with nice eye. Bit reluctant to show in the heat. 3rd. Purvey’s Freejack A Kind Of Magic.
