I would like to start by thanking the society for once again entrusting me with an appointment. This was made especially welcome as it was to judge Smooth Collies making a welcome return to the society. Whilst the number of Smooths being registered hasn't increased vastly it is nice to see so many of their owners taking new interest in the show-ring and keeping this lovely breed in our sport, often seen taking group placings at both Open and Championship Shows. Having such a lovely entry of 16 making 20 and knowing and expecting paper entries and absentees I was pleased with the quality and presentation of the exhibits on the day. We all know a winning dog this week can be found lame the next and a bitch in season on the day can go out and take top honours the following show. My placings and awards were as follows. JD (2) 1 Cole's, Sturtmoor Dream of Kasvelyn (BD, Res BoB and BOS) Sable dog 16 months old. Solid male maturing well. Took a little time to settle but stood and showed well once he put his mind to it. Occasional distractions on the move but typical for his age. Beautiful eye set in to a very well matured head. Still room for a little tightening in front but expected for age. Starting to enter the typical teenager phase, mind not always on the job in hand and playing to the ladies. Will I'm sure benefit from leaving Junior behind and all its challenges. Pleased to award Best Dog, Reserve Best of Breed and Best opposite Sex. 2 Kinsey's, Sturtmoor Khaos of Kaswyn. Litter brother to winner - see below. GD (1) 1 Kinsey's, Sturtmoor Khaos of Kaswyn. Although maturing at a different rate his brother (1st above) I believe this will benefit in the long run. Superb head with no sign of coarseness, correct ear placement and carriage which frames a super wedge shaped head, with a good set eye. He is currently not in top condition weight wise but fully understood reasons. His chest needs to drop and maturing needs to continue but I am sure he will be a superb male when he comes into full adulthood. He is currently being overshadowed by his brother which is something he allows him to do. He moved and showed much better in the classes where they weren't together and had he done so in the initial class the placing could very easily have been reversed. PGD (1) 1 Kinsey's, Sturtmoor Khaos of Kaswyn as above. JB (1) 1 Kinsey's, Sturtmoor Kurious Kadence. 16 month Tri bitch, with sweet feminine head and good placement and carriage to ears. Colour will benefit from clearing, moved well once settled. Lovely rear action would like a little more in front but I'm sure once chest drops in this will be the finishing touch she needs. GB (2) 1 Moores, Manordeifi Summer Magic BB/BOB - Tri bitch well presented and showing good depth of chest. Good length of neck and well angulated Shoulders, excellent topline. Nice on the move both in profile and moving away. Good quality to coat. Tail appears curved but carried well both on the move and at rest. Showed like a troper and pleased to award Best bitch and Best of Breed. 2 Sturtmoor Kurious Kadence. PGB (3,2) 1 Sturtmoor Kurious Kadence. LB (4,2) 1 Ryecombe Jovial Jasmine of Sturtmoor. Lovely colour on this sable bitch who moved and showed well. Good reach of neck and good front angulation. 2 Lusty's, Foxearth Fly Orchid. 3 year old bitch not really enjoying her day out or at least, not the showing part. Tendency to rush her movement but looked good when requested to move at walking pace. Allowed her to concentrate on what she needed to do. OB (4,2) 1 Lusty's, Juniperwood Just a Dream (BV) Solidly made tri bitch, well covered and good rear angulation, came into her own on the move. 2 Lusty's, Juniperwood Dream Maker at Blamorder. 8 year old tri bitch who was unsure of the floor today, good colour well presented deserved Best Veteran
