I thank the Officers and the Committee of the British Collie Club for the invitation to judge the Smooth Collies at their Sub Group Show. I was pleased that my Smooth Best Bitch and BOB - Benton's Alopex Marionette Of Oakestelle went on to be awarded Res BIS - a mutual joint decision with my co judge the BIS being the excellent Rough Dog - Cooney's Jopium Stole My Heart At Lingwell. My principle class winners on the day were Benton's Alopex Marionette Of Oakestelle, winner of the Smooth Veteran class and also Best Veteran in Show - a 7 yr old B/M with excellent body conformation good strong pasterns and neat hocks. Good broken colour markings and a clean well shaped head with a feminine expression. Very good ear carriage. Moved effortlessly up and down the ring and was very well handled and presented. A very worthy winner. 2 in the Veteran class was Russell's S/W dog - Foxeath Fashion Guru For Koczkodan. Up to size but with a good shape and movement but was a little too happy with his tail when on the move. Handled and presented well. Forbes' Natalain Star Lord at Willowhurst (Imp Rus) stood alone in the smooth puppy dog class - a 7 and a half month S/W stood and showed well. Good on the move and he had a clean well balanced head with a nice expression. Moved well and was well handled and presented. Russell's' tri bitch - Breckamore Bittersweet for Koczkodan was first in the Junior Bitch class. Nice compact shape, clean head with good well set and placed ears, moved well and handled and presented very well. French's Breckamore Blossom won the smooth PG bitch class. A S/w with a nice overall balanced shape, clean head of correct proportion, good reach of neck and good ear carriage and placement, Moved OK but seemed a bit "edgy" today - perhaps the noise of the hall caused some upset. Nevertheless a nice bitch. In the smooth Open Bitch class my winner was Russell's tri Manordeifi Satin Doll Of Koczkodan good black coloured coat and well balanced body shape. Clean head, neat ears which she used well, moved well and an excellent show girl. 2nd in the class was Forbes' Natalain Kilkenny at Willowhurst (Imp - Rus) - a S/W with a nice body shape and a good reach of neck. Showed well and moved soundly. 3 was Lister's Manordeifi Miss Daisy At Newarp. My grateful thanks to all the exhibitors for their entries and last but not least to my two very able stewards keeping everything running "smoothly"
