West of England Collie Association - April 8th 2012
Thank you for the lovely entry I had today, and to the really lovely friendly committee that made our day one to remember, especially the super lunch.
The ring was a bit up and down, and as I understand a few pot holes, so movement, in some cases was not easy to assess, but really pleased to be outside, if somewhat windy.
For Best in Show, my self and Co Judge Frank Smith, could not agree, so the referee Phillip Amos stood in and on his decision the Rough Collie 10 month old Dog Puppy Hollywood and Waterhouse's Lynmead Amalie All Eyes on Me was Best in Show and Best Puppy in Show. With my co-judge's agreement the Smooth BOB, was Reserve Best in Show and Best Opposite Sex in Show, and the Smooth Veteran, Best Veteran in Show.
Veteran Dog (3,1)
1st Davies, Sharidon Anything Goes at Keenacre and 2nd Griffiths, Ch Alopex Highland Fling, Two nice Tri Boys, both flying their ears unfortunately, probably a lot to do with the very windy weather. Although the 1st was out of coat, I liked his nicely angulated hindquarters, had a lovely head, good front and well bodied. Moved a little stiffly at times, and this is where he had to give away to the spritely Veteran Bitch for Best Veteran. The 2nd had a lovely head, Moved Well, but would like him to had a bit more enthusiasm. Had good front and Feet, angulation was balanced, but fell away a little to much in croup and would like him to have carried a little more weight.
1st Giddings, Ryecombe Discovered Gold, Sable Dog, a little apprehensive at 1st but gained confidence as the day went on. Lovely head and eye, Ears Ok when he used them, Nice Shape, well angulated. Lovely Colour. Moved better than he stood. Has good stride in profile.
1st Leach, Manordeifi Dionysus at Hilltarn, Liked this dog a lot, Lovely shape, nicely angulated rear, Lovely head and eye with excellent ears, needs to develop in front but will come with time. Would like a little more body on him to finish. Bit of a clown on the move, but once settled moved really well, really pleased to give him RBD
1st Leach, Manordeifi Dionysus at Hilltarn
1st Moores, Manordeifi Shadow Chaser, Tri Colour Dog, in super condition, his coat gleamed. Lovely Mover with good drive, when he concentrates. Liked his head and lovely kind expression, good ears. loved his hind angulation and his outline, just could do with a little more neck to complete the picture for me, which his kennel mate had, and this was the deciding factor for Best of Breed. Best Dog.
Veteran Bitch (2)
1st Coates, Starlight Spirit at Pencloda, Neat little blue bitch, using her ears when she decided too. Well broken colour, Would prefer better hind angulation. But moved really well, with such Gusto.. to take the class and Best Veteran in Breed, and So pleased she went Best Veteran in Show
2nd Moores, Manordeifi Silver Dawn, Nice type bitch. Heavier in type. Super angulation, but a little down in her pasterns, and losing a topline moving today.
Puppy Bitch (1)
1st Norman, Ryecombe Drama Queen, Smart sable bitch. Lovely colour. Nice shape, good angulation, would like a little more forechest, but this should come with age. Moved well, but preferred the dog Puppy's head and his outline on the move.
Special Yearling (3,1)
1st Moores, Manordeifi Silver Dazzler, A bitch I really like, Super colour, loved her super angulation and her head eye and expression. Carry a little to much weight still, but she is getting there. feet OK. Well muscled. Wasn't using her ears very well today and her movement was somewhat erratic today which cost her, but very much my cup of tea.
2nd Beeney, Kingrock Bathsheba at Coneypark, Smaller type sable bitch, not showing as I know she can on the day. For me Lacks the angulation of the 1st. Moved well keeping good topline.
Post Graduate Bitch (2,1)
1st Moores, Manordeifi Silver Sparkle. Well Broken Blue Merle although colour could be better. My surprise of the day, this bitch has really come on. Has lost loads of weight (Could lose a tad more) has super angulation both front and rear. Super shape stacked and excellent neck. Moved really well, with lovely profile movement. Good Head and kind expression. Pleased to give her Best Bitch, Best of Breed and finally Reserve Best in Show.
1st Gay, Manordeifi Sapphire Mist at Yagane. Well broken Blue Merle, although colour could be better. Lovely shape and a Free Easy Mover, A little light in eye, and would like her a little more feminine in head. A very nice bitch just had to give away to the younger bitch on the day, as I preferred her hind angulation. RBB
2nd Griffiths Alopex Little Summer, very pretty Sable Bitch, Preferred her head to 1st. Loved her constant wagging tail showing, she had good front and nicely angulated, One that struggled to use her ears with the wind, good mover, just not the easy movement of the 1st for me on the day.
3rd Moores, Manordeifi Silvadora
