There was a very good turnout of Smooths with some really nice dogs and it was a real pleasure to judge this super breed. Movement on the whole was good and I found an interesting variation in type. The blue merles seemed to dominate but it was the sable bitch Foxearth Gold Filigree who won the day with BOB and BIS. SMOOTH COLLIE: VD (2) 1 Davis' Sharidon Anything Goes At Keenacre. 7 ? year old tricolour. Correct head, nice length of neck, body and tail. Legs parallel viewed fore and aft, good height but would like more substance. Moved actively and showed OK. 2 Gadd's Chicnoir Snow Wolfe, just under 8 years old. Good coloured B/M, well proportioned head, correct eye and stop and liked his expression. General body shape balanced but would have liked a little more height and more length of tail and he was a little overweight which did affect his movement. Showed OK. PD (1) 1st & Bpd Moores' Manordeifi Shadow Chaser. Delightful outgoing tricolour puppy 7 mths old.. Stood alone. Good shaped head, flat skull, nice foreface well placed eye but would like ears to lift a little more. Good, balanced and lithe body shape, parallel limbs and good bone, angulation and length, a promising puppy. At the moment rather unruly where showing and movement is concerned. PG (3) 1st & RBD Evans' Southcombe Starman. Likeable good coloured B/M nearly 3 years old. Well proportioned head, flat skull and nice eye and ear carriage. I liked his size and his body shape. His top line was firm and he had the right amount of bone. Seemed a little laid back but moved and showed well. 2 Gadd's Snuggletooth Filly's Fellow At Chicnoir. 7 year old tricolour, nicely moulded head with super well placed ears. His shoulder and stifle angulation was good but I would like a little more height and substance. A pity he seemed unhappy and unsettled at times. 3 Purvey's Freejack Midnight Dazzler. OD (4,1a) 1st, BD & RBOB Purvey's Freejack Royal Knight, topped this nice class. 3? years old, well broken clear coloured B/M, well moulded head, correctly placed nicely tipped ears, good eye and an appealing expression. Good length of neck, well laid shoulder and bend of stifle. Ribs were well sprung and top line firm, held on the move. He had good bone, plenty of substance, was well muscled up and fit, moved and showed very well. 2 Moore's Manordeifi Storm Breaker, another 3 year old, this time a tricolour. Good head pattern, nice eye, balanced body shape with firm top line and good angulation. Moved and showed well. 3 Griffiths' Alopex Matt Finnish. VB (3) 1st RBB Moores' Manordeifi Silver Dawn, mature, attractive 7? year old B/M, excellent colour, well broken up. Very nice head planes, and well placed ears, eye and stop, combining to give a very sweet expression. Nice size with body shape all in proportion and good angulation, I would have liked her just a shade more elegant. Moved and showed well. 2 Gadd's Snuggletooth Fag Ash Lil At Chicnoir, B/M almost 9 years old with a good shaped head and length of body but didn't make the best of herself and I suspect would rather have been somewhere else. She moved and showed enough. 3 Purvey's Norfield Miss Magic Star. PB (3,2a) 1st & Bpb Moores' Manordeifi Silver Sparkle. 7 month old B/M sister of the BPD whose colour is well broken up but just needs to clear. She had a sparkling personality, a very pretty, feminine head with sweet eye and expression and I hope her ears will lift a bit more to complete the picture. She has a nice reach of neck, top line and angulation, good limbs and she did move and show some of the time with an abundance of energy but needs to learn to concentrate. SP Y (5,3a) 1 Coates' Alopex Blue Moon. 14 month old B/M, lovely colour. I really liked this little girl whose head was well moulded with nicely tipped, alert ears, almond eye and correct stop and good length of neck. She had a nicely sloping shoulder and good bend of stifle, enough bone for her size, was fit and moved and showed well. I just wish there was more of her size wise. 2 Giddings' All That Jazz At Rycombe, tricolour of 16 months, slightly overshadowed by 1 who was more mature. She needs more time to body up and develop muscle. Having said that she did move and show well. PG (1) 1 Purvey's Freejack A Touch Of Magic. 4 year old who stood alone. Nice head with well placed sweet eye and stop, ears a little low set. Good length of neck, firm top line held on the move, good angulation and enough bone. Moved out well and showed OK. OB (5,1a) This was my best class of the day. 1st, BOB & BIS Giddings' Foxearth Gold Filigree, impressive S/W who caught my eye as she moved into the ring, fully mature, very fit, well muscled and athletic, at the same time appearing feminine with an alert, interested and sweet expression as she looked at you straight in the eye. Her well chiseled head was in proportion with her body. Stop, eyes and very alert ears all correctly placed. Neck was well muscled, of good length, flowing into firm top line, slight rise over the loins and low set long tail. She had good depth of chest, correct spring of rib, excellent angulation, parallel strong limbs with well let down hocks. On the move she drove strongly from behind and reached out well in front, had a lovely stance when still and showed non-stop, a well deserved BOB. In the final challenge, when up against the very nice B/M Rough Collie dog, BOB winner, Blake's Corydon Once In A Blue Moon, the referee awarded her BIS and RBIS to the Rough. 2 Moores' Manordeifi Silvadora. 3 ? year old B/M. Very nice bitch with well balanced head and general conformation. Good foreface, stop and eye, ears could be a little tighter. Very good angulation, spring of rib and bone. A little bit unsettled but moved and showed well. 3 Griffiths' Alopex Out Of The Blue.
