Smooth Collie Club 2008
The welcome from the committee was as warm as the weather and just as sunny. The show area looked fantastic and the exhibitors and their dogs were able to sit under the trees in the shade. MPD (1) 1 Wallis' Foxearth Silver Dream. A very attractive blue baby of lovely colour. He had a huge white colour, which showed off his lovely reach of neck to advantage. Sweet, well-placed eye and ears well set although flying at the moment. Moved soundly going away but needs to tighten in front. PD (2) 1 French's Frendet Cotton Eye Joe. Sable of the most lovely type with enough substance for his age. Super angulation, great reach of neck and good back length. Moved well going and in profile but front needs to tighten. Very appealing eye giving very sweet expression with good ear carriage. Very nice puppy. BPD. 2 Norman & Ratcliffe's Foxearth Follow That Dream. Sweet tri puppy in super condition with gleaming black coat. Clean well-balanced head and, although eyes are bit small, his expression is still very appealing. Good depth of chest and enough length to back. Top line needs to be finished to complete the picture. JD (3, 1a) 1 Winter & Unwin's Rowvale River of Fortune at Snowtrekka. Upstanding blue dog with very deep chest and enough neck. Short hocks gave drive to his rear action and looked good in profile but could tighten in front. Good stop, flat scull and good are carriage. Hope his colour clears. 2 Griffiths' Alopex Skymaster Blue. Darker smaller blue than one. Very good rear angulation that looked good on the move from all angles. Very sweet expression from correct eye placement and ear carriage. Would persist in holding his head forward and down which spoilt his overall outline. ND (4, 1a) 1 Purvey's Freejack Royal Knight. Blue of the most lovely outline. Very good both ways and in profile. Nice front. A bit plain in head with light eyes. 2 River Fortune at S. 3 Leach's Hilltarn Chitinn. PGD (6, 4a) 1 Griffiths' Alopex Matt Finish. The front on this tri is so well put together and although I would prefer more rear angulation he has an exceptionally good croup and he looked super on the move both going and in profile holding his top line. Balanced head, eye and expression and superb ear carriage. A lovely young dog with all before him. 2 Wallis' Norfield White Knight. Very deep chest on this sable whose head is balanced with a well placed dark eye. Good rear action but top line and front let him down. LD (6, 2a) 1 Wallis's Freejack First Knight at Norfield. Upstanding tri, very well bodied up with deep chest and plenty of heart room. His front did not please but he moved well both going and in profile. Really good neck and shoulder placement and correct top line. Flat scull and excellent ear carriage. 2 Purvey's Norfield Silver Knight for Freejack. Not the best coloured blue but another with a very deep chest and good front who moved well in all directions. Well placed eye and although ears a tad wide he used them. Just looked a bit up on the leg for me. 3 Fullwood's Darsign Minstrel Blue. OD (8, 2a) A superb class. 1 Forbes' Ch Pelgarth Paint It Black at Willowhurst. Masculine dog of the most lovely shape with a superb outline. Very well angulated with powerful hocks giving drive from the rear. He carried his tail low and just powered round the ring keeping his top line at all times. He looks good from every angle with his good length of back, well laid shoulder and lovely reach of neck. Perhaps a tad strong in head and his eyes could be darker but his head is clean under the eyes with no lumps or bumps, with a good under jaw and his ears are up on top and used constantly. He never put a foot wrong, is a natural showman and I loved his overall balance and elegance. BD, RBOB & BOSIS. 2 Lister's Ch Eridor I'm Mr Blue at Newarp. Quality blue of most lovely type and colour with very deep chest and good neck. Knew how to move. Sound in both directions and in profile. Very well balanced head with correct stop and the most lovely eye placement giving very sweet expression. I would just prefer him a tad longer in body to balance. 3 Norman & Ratcliffe's Ch Foxhearth Flash Past. VD (4, 2a) 1 Hill's Devern Blue Horizon. Very attractive blue with a supper head eye and expression. Very good ear carriage, super neck, good length of back and pleasing on the move. 2 Winsor-Green's Foxearth Silver Dreamer. Darker blue who standing looked older than his years but who came to life on the move covering the ground well. A dog, I suspect, who enjoys action over showing. MPB (2, 1a) 1 Campbell's Glencorrie Dusky Diva. Ultra feminine tri in superb condition and a lovely type with good tan. Very sweet head, eye and expression. Just needs time to get it all together and then should have some fun. PB (1) 1 French's Frendet Nannina. Ultra feminine sable of quality of a super type. Not a big one and would persist to tuck under which made her seem even smaller but so well balanced with fantastic shape and balance throughout. Loved her head, eye and expression, so very sweet I could have taken her home. Best Smooth Puppy. JB (1) 1 Hayward's Rowvale Rainbow's End at Foxearth. When this bitch entered the ring I could not stop looking at her and my first impression was wow. A fabulous bitch with the most lovely shape, so balanced and elegant and, although when asked to move, she played her handler up a bit she soon settled into her light easy stride and she covered the ground with ease. Sound both ways she moves with drive keeping her top line. Blue could clear a tad but great tan. Her head is just lovely and with her super ear carriage, correct stop and wonderful eye placement her expression is a knockout. Could not get past her. BOB & RBIS. 2 Martin's Rowvale Rich n Famous. Very attractive tri and another of quality. A lovely reach of neck but just a tad too high over the rump at the moment. Moved well going away. Liked her flat scull and correctly placed and used ears. Needs to develop and hopefully will, given time. 3 Marsden's Rowvale Rags to Riches. NB (5, 1a) 1 Purvey's Freejack A Touch of Magic. Ultra feminine blue whose colour could be better. Having said that, she is a great shape with super outline and very much the type I like. Good back end with short hocks and lovely shoulder placement. Super head pattern with the sweetest of eyes and expression. Would prefer her a size bigger all over but she was balanced and look good on the move. 2 Rich n Famous. 3 Dusky Deva. PGB (3, 1a) 1 Griffiths' Alopex Out of The Blue. Very feminine blue who has a great reach of neck and good back length. Correct head balanced throughout with a flat scull and correct ear placement and an expression to die for which I have seen before from this exhibitor. Liked her very much. 2 Rich n Famous. LB (5) 1 Giddings Foxearth Gold Filligree. Sable of quality who has the most exquisite expression and is such a lovely type. Her length of back combined with her short hocks, rounded bone and sheer elegance made her a pleasure to watch both standing and on the move. Love her eye placement and her ears are set correctly even if she holds them a bit low. Very close between her and Rainbow's End, the blue just had the edge on stop, moulding under the eyes and tail set. RBB. Another I could live with. 2 French's Lilymead Amazing Grace. A lovely blue of good shape and balance who could do with being a bit deeper in chest. Having said that she is a good type with short hocks and rear angulation and she went well. OB (8, 4a) 1 Robinson's Hilltarn Valentine. I liked everything about this tri bitch except her eye colour and shape. A great showgirl with the shape to match. Good head, well balanced and clean through, great ear carriage and sound an all directions. 2 Moore's Manordeifi Silver Dawn Nice type of blue bitch. Well made with good shoulders and rear angulation. Balanced head with a gentle eye and expression. Standing a bit slack in top line spoilt the outline. 3 Sewell's Ch Foxearth Farris via Lewarne. VB (5, 2a) 1 Giddings' Ch Foxearth Finesse at Sandwick. Glorious coloured blue who belies her age and stands and shows off her charms for all to see. Good rear angulation, short hocks and nice front combined to make her elegant both standing and on the move. Loved her head with sweetest of eyes and expression. So typical of her breeding. BV. 2 Purvey's Norfield Miss Magic. Very pretty darker blue of lovely type. Liked her shape with her good reach of neck and she was sound enough, just a tad narrow all through. 3 Wallis Norfield Miss Dark Star.
